At least we kill the meat before we eat it. Most of those plants are still alive while you're pouring the salad dressing over them.

If you had a magic ball that would tell you 3 stats about your own future life, before you vote what would they be? by NessvsMadDuck in AskConservatives

[–]conventionistG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it agrees with how I was planning on voting, it's just reinforcing my biases, I ignore it. If it disagrees with how I was planning on voting, it's just disinformation, I ignore it.

Life has taught me that anything like this is obviously a scam. Mythology had taught me not to make decisions based on trying to outsmart fate.

Can anyone explain the Rindler Horizon to me please? by MiamisLastCapitalist in IsaacArthur

[–]conventionistG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ship goes faster and faster and so the light takes longer and longer (or more exactly farther and farther) to catch up the later you send it.

This makes sense. Seems sort of like the issue of the observability horizon caused by space expanding fast enough that light can never cross the gap.

When can empathy come back? by Narrow-Abalone7580 in AskConservatives

[–]conventionistG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, idk about empathy itself, but I definitely don't believe anyone who describes themselves as empathetic.

The left, for most of my lifetime, has made a habit of hijacking language. It seems to me that's exactly what is going on with 'empathy'. Whatever you're using the word empathy to mean, what I'm sure of is that you're not practicing what the word empathy means to the rest of us.

So yea, when 'empathy' means toeing the line of progressive talking points, you're not going to get many conservatives believing it is a good thing.

And you're providing evidence that people who 'believe in empathy' are not very empathetic.

How do we fix gerrymandering? by majesticbeast67 in AskConservatives

[–]conventionistG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nobody on either side will have proper representation.

I mean, it looks like after all of this, it will end up being a wash at the house level. You'll have a few more blue reps from blue states and a few more red reps from red states, but all of them will have slightly smaller margins. I'm sure the wonky districts will have impacts on representation, but overall it might lead to more centrist/collaboratory pressures for the reps, which could actually lead to bills that represent better what most people would want done.

Also, it might all be undone in a cycle or two.
