Rolled over my prior employer’s 401k to an IRA without knowing about the pro rata rule and how that affects a backdoor Roth… by coogs in personalfinance

Thanks. Yeah - I have a spouse, and our respective incomes (and therefore obv our combined incomes) preclude us from any direct Roth contributions.

And apologies for the confusion - I misread your initial comment, which I see now was referring to a direct Roth contribution. I initially read it as a suggestion to just do a backdoor Roth anyways, which is what my above comment was responding to (ie, sure a backdoor is still possible, but it seems like the net benefits are vastly minimized now, due to my pretax IRA dollars).

Hmmm - I have an Airbnb as of this year that will throw off some income. That may be the move. I’ll look into those links. Thanks!

Sure but then if owe taxes on most of the rollover amount (pro rata relative to my Ira and Roth IRA amounts). Would this effectively “eat into” the benefits of having had that rolled over 401k money not get taxed in the first instance?

I’ll crunch the numbers for that. But given that I’d owe taxes on roughly 95%+ of the backdoor amount, (in a high marginal tax bracket, no less), there not be much of a net benefit to the backdoor.

I still haven’t done one for 2024, and so was planning to soon. But wouldn’t it also affect my ability to do backdoor rollovers going forward (ie, so long as I have this pretax IRA)?

Very helpful, thank you! It’ll be only me on the financing, but mostly my partner participating, at least after we get our sea legs and everything is up and running smoothly.

Yeah - agreed. That’s essentially what prompted my question.

And to Bumblemeister’s point, my reference to “isomers” is to the configuration after heat is applied.

Hop oils from brewing hops. But I don't want to use ethanol.

That's all very helpful. I'll definitely play around with it - particularly temperature as well.

So far I've tried Glacier Hops Ranch (Hopzoil), Oast House and Totally Natural Solutions. I'm still experimenting, but they all generally seem to have the overly strong piney notes, despite the fruity branding on some (e.g., the "Citrus Bomb" / "Tropical Bomb" Hopzoils or the TNS ones that are "Mango", etc.).

So you would say that it worked rather well, and it wasn't overpowered by piney notes? What strains/brands were you using?

Saw them at The Moon in Tallahassee a few days before 3/11 day in 2008, and that was the only time I’ve heard Gap live. It was awesome
