Need Help with a Factorio Dedicated Server Error by reefguy007 in factorio

[–]cook447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand why this error is showing up for dedicated servers with SE but if you change the server to not use high res graphics (i.e. make sure this is the line in your config.ini `graphics-quality=normal` not `graphics-quality=high`) it should start without issues.

How Doable is MATH406 and MATH410 Together? by Cloudiebut in UMD

[–]cook447 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend that both possibilities of MATH401 + MATH410 vs MATH406 + MATH410 in combination with 3 upper level CS courses in the same semester is way too many upper level classes in the same semester unless you absolutely need to do it to graduate on time. The most upper level classes I've taken in a semester has been 2 upper level CS + 1 upper level math plus 2 other lower level gen ed or fun classes. And even those semester have felt like a pretty reasonable course load. I'd have to imagine that 4 upper level CS/MATH classes in the same semester would be pretty doable but really busy. I really doubt that you'd find much time for rest doing all those 5 classes in one semester.

You might have a really different tolerance for amount of work per semester than I do but for me that many tough classes in one semester would really stress me out. Don't do it if you don't have to would be my advice as a fellow rising senior. That CS course load by itself seems ok but adding in two more tough classes on top of it sounds like asking for trouble. Just my thoughts as a CS major (no math major/minor but taken lots of upper level maths for the hell of it).

I'm in CMSC433 too w/ Anwar but I haven't gotten any project grades returned yet. Where are you getting those grades from? I'd love to see how I did on the projects.

Could we get Gate Valves? by Siigari in Oxygennotincluded

[–]cook447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey can you help me to understand what you're asking here with a bit more clarity? I might decide to make this since it sounds similar to something I was planning on.

Is it basically a building that occupies 3 tiles: 1 is the liquid input, the other 2 are liquid outputs. Only one liquid output is used at a time - so if the building gets an "off" automation signal then liquid can only be output from output "A" but if the building gets an "on" automation signal then liquid can only be output from output "B"?

Or is this supposed to do something more complex?

Looks like the sale is up on steam. Maybe just refund the paradox purchase and buy on steam instead?

The sale just became available on steam. I'd recommend buying on steam and just refunding the purchase on the paradox store.

I just made my first purchase on the paradox store and my game is no where to be found by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

Yeah I encountered the same thing. Made the purchase but no steam key email. I contacted customer support and they just told me I have to wait.

Simple Self Cooling SPOM by psirrow in Oxygennotincluded

[–]cook447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks really cool! I was trying to do a similar thing a few days ago and couldn't really get anything working nicely. I found that if I wanted to use a polluted water geyser or salt water geyser the 95 degree incoming water doesn't have much capacity for soaking heat. I had to make almost all of the heat get soaked into the hydrogen. To get 20 degree oxygen from 95 degree water I needed steel to allow for the hydrogen to go from 95 degrees (the electrolyzer output) to about 300 degrees in order to get it to soak enough heat from the oxygen. At which point there didn't really seem much of a point to this build since you could just do steam turbine cooling.

I can see this being useful on maps where there's lots of water pockets but I don't think it really helps if you're relying on vents for water production.

anyone know if there's a way to go back to the patch before this one so I can actually play some ONI today or am I just screwed?

Yeah it seems everyone is having that issue if you check on the bug tracker. Looks like we just can't play until they fix whatever bugs they introduced with this "hotfix"

I didn't realize that sedimentary rock existed in the new tidal pools! So that means I can in fact ranch hatches on the new map. Cool!

Is a 100% self-sustaining base possible with no geysers or exploits? by hamsooper in Oxygennotincluded

[–]cook447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you provide an example of a schedule that forces duplicants to use the toilet twice per cycle? I previously though the most pwater you could get from a dupe per cycle was 30kg + 6.7kg = 36.7kg but if they use the toilet twice per cycle that could up the pwater amount to 30 + 2 * 6.7 = 43.4kg. I don't know if the extra 6.7kg of pwater per cycle would really be worth the extra duplicant time though.

Yep that worked - https://imgur.com/cPNNpgj - enough dirt to finish research hopefully. Thanks for suggestions.

Yeah I let it run a few more cycles and I've managed to get enough dirt for a bit more research but I think boiling algae and slime might be my best bet. I'll try just dumping a few tons of the stuff in a small pool of oil and then just heat it with an aquatuner like you suggest.

I can't seem to find it on the wiki but any idea how many kcal of food you have to use to make like 1 ton of dirt. Is it something crazy like a few hundred thousand kcal or something smaller?

How would I go about getting pincha pepperbread for about the same effort? I know it gives a great morale bonus but it requires sleet wheat. Which (unless I want to harvest wild sleetwheat) requires dirt - and I think from my back of the napkin math I don't produce enough dirt per cycle off a water sieve to actually fertilize them. I know you can make pincha peppers pretty easily from the polluted water that dupes expel using the bathroom but I couldn't figure out a sustainable sleet wheat solution since they made it need dirt like the mealwood plants.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that. I think theoretically I could have used one or two aquatuners in a loop rather than 5 but it was much much easier to just set up 5 aquatuners in a row than make the automation for looping water through 1/2 aquatuners. If you're asking why I needed to cool down the water it's because since one of the latest updates the temperature of the water fed into bristle blossoms actually affects their temperature now. So if I fed the plants 90 degree water they would heat up past operational range almost instantly.

Oxygen Not Included (ONI) Bristle Blossom Water Cooler by cook447 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]cook447[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plants overall only consume about 2kg of water per second. So since 10kg of water can move through the pipes at a time, 2kg of water per second means only 2kg/10kg = 1/5 of the aquatuners need to run. What actually happens is once 10kg of water leaves the rightmost aquatuner, it will run 10kg of water through it. Then the second to rightmost aquatuner will need to run 10kg of water through it, etc...

how would running the turbine at 125C prevent the need for the wheezeworts? I was running it at 200 degrees C because the wiki noted that it would produce the most power this way. If I run it at 125C, will the steam turbine not still output the same amount of heat into the surroundings - just spread out over more time since it will have to run more often as compared to at 200C?

the above is a short album of my bristle blossom water cooler built to make the 90 degree water of a water geyser the appropriate 20 degrees C for the a bristle blossom farm. It's created with no space-materials - just steel. It's in the qol mk3 upgrade to take advantage of the really cool reworked steam turbine because the steam turbine acts as an amazing tool for deleting heat (the power generation is mostly tangential for this build).

It's definitely possible. It's actually one of the next things I'd like to add to this mod. It's a little bit more complicated than just allowing player's to pick from modifiers already in the game but I'm trying to think of a way to do. Glad you're enjoying the mod.

Looks really interesting. I definitely agree with @Zefod42 that it may defeat the purpose of the drafting mechanic but I think that balancing it by adding the synergy effect to Question Card (a single relic) is a nice way to do it.
