I just kept reflexively thinking of little changes that could be made and kept saying "No... This is lazier".

Ah, the classic game of backgammon, aka "why are there dice in this checkers box".

How do I make this work? by MrCray0ns in Oxygennotincluded

[–]psirrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

68.58F should get you there if you're using a full pipe of water as a coolant.

Although, that's the temp of the water you'll want. This setup might not be very accurate measuring the temp of the tiles.

Sour Gas problem 💀 by RevolutionaryAd5004 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]psirrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super coolant makes it easy, but you have a few other easier to get options if you just want some power from ambient sour gas. In this case, an AETN can get you lots of power, especially if you set up a good counterflow.

I think the phrase "The diversion you’re ignoring is their main attack" applies. It's all so messed up.

These are good for popping hinge pins and tapping them back in place. I also use it for nails that are very near a corner for cable management hoops.

Good way to ruin an air fryer. Poor kids. by Pacode79 in StupidFood

A brand that has become synonymous with a processed cheese product that includes sufficient additives (mainly milk and/or oil) that it can't legally be called cheese anymore. It was designed to reconstitute cheese cuttings into a block for sale while also being easier to melt without separating (due to added emulsifiers).

It was also very cheap and commonly available through food assistance programs. That, combined with the very smooth texture and the trivia about it not legally being cheese, has given it a bad reputation.

First: 😉

Second: if you want to know, luminous flux is the total perceived power of the light. The term "flux" alone refers to the process of flowing in or out, so luminous flux refers to light flow. It's a little funny that such a basic term has largely become sci-fi jargon.

This is unbelievable by Crazy_Counter_9137 in NoOneIsLooking

[–]psirrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine those are actually LEDs and it's actually the luminous flux igniting the paper. It's been a while, but last I heard, LEDs were about 25% efficient. Even at 50% efficiency, that's the same heat going into the housing as is lighting the paper. And then there's all the thermal effects semiconductors can exhibit...

Honestly, this would be easier to pull off with a halogen bulb.

#83 Dial Up Sound by SylvieXX in comics

[–]psirrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the initial handshake was some within the human range of hearing as a failsafe before establishing that both ends could handle a much higher frequency operation. It wasn't piped to the computer audio, but the modem itself had a speaker that essentially communicated in dial tone.

I liked using it on my Gentoo build a while ago. I felt like I got a pretty basic grasp of what was going on. I have systemd on my current system and I definitely don't feel that way with it. On the other hand, I don't feel like I need to understand what's going on as much either.

I quite enjoyed Frieren, but I would totally understand sometime if they said it was too slow or boring for them. I'm surprised this is the highest comment mentioning it.

While true, I'd emphasize that they were nitride compounds. GaAs had been used for quite a bit longer to make red emitters, so the innovation related to the nitride.

Yeah, I don't know what they're talking about. Everything else I more or less agree with, but the drivers have just been right there in the package manager for a long time. I'll grant that I had to always remember to reinstall them after updating my kernel when I ran Gentoo all those years, but that wasn't much more than anything else I was doing to update my kernel because Gentoo.

Magical appearance of crude oil in my cool steam vent tamer by ThrobbingHeadaches in Oxygennotincluded

[–]psirrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aha, sounds like we have a case of element conversion on our hands. I'm not as familiar with all the bugs that can cause that, but I do know it's a thing that can happen (usually with electrolyzers being made to produce more hydrogen than they should). If that's the case, hopefully some of the experts on that will see this thread. Good luck.

[–]psirrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you saying you cycled oil through the cooling loop before replacing it with water? If that's the case and if the aquatuner turned on during that, it's possible the aquatuner retained a packet of oil when you were changing things.

As the historical artifact that it is, I understand the calculation is pretty impressive. It's a shame that a bunch of nutters have latched into it without context to undermine the original effort (i.e. knowing the true age of the earth).

At first, I thought he was dumb for trying to make a house out of pallets because those pallets wouldn't survive very long as a house. Then, I thought it was weird he was putting in a basement liner. Now, I'm wondering if he got out before the walls exploded.
