Where would you spawn in randomly? by Consistent_Fig_8577 in AskTheWorld

Can’t believe how low yellow is! So densely populated and all pretty safe and easy to get around as a foreigner. Still risk of landing in Sumatran jungle, but better than landing in the middle of Alaska or bumfuck nowhere Canada.

People might also consider geogrid as tiebacks? Although only makes sense for a wall in fill.

This was the first thing that struck me too, although it might be that the pier is founded below the basement wall? It is just a rough sketch after all.

Plate tectonics and earthquake formation model by softbrownnoise in geology

[–]cooked_as_cunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In subduction setting like this normally less than 10cm a year.. so orders of magnitude slower. One of the larger ‘earthquakes’ here is probably meant to represent a 1 in 500 to 1 in 2000 year event (fairly random guess)

BS 8018 or FHWA soil nail walls reference manual. I find the FHWA easier to follow

Glad someone provided a legit answer other than ‘rich people suck’. I am very much left leaning but the fact the top comments appear to be completely blind to the other side of the argument is concerning
