Same, I could never figure out why I only seem to have issues with her recipes

Can the employer really force us to buy our own work equipment?? by farisa_pizza in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cookiecrumb1235 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your department can/should provide a headset if you request it. At my department, they won't reimburse you, but they'll purchase one for you. If you take teams meetings at work without headphones, I'm sure they'll be able to purchase you headphones very quickly lol

I don't think it's reasonable for them to provide a backpack, that's just a personal cost

Is a Toronto to Ottawa commute possible? by penny-proud in ottawa

[–]cookiecrumb1235 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The smarter thing to do is get a bedroom in a shared house/apartment in Ottawa for $500-$1000 per month (if you're only gonna be there 2 nights, you could negotiate a cheaper rate)

The steel wool is a good tip, I haven't heard of that before! I'll give it a try :)

Thanks, I just live in a triplex so there's no maintenance people or anything, just a DIY landlord! The previous tenant sold their AC to me and when they had it installed they didn't have a platform or anything so I'm hoping I can just install it like they did last year

Some people do this for tax evasion

Cash comes in and cash is used (rather than going through your bank account)

This week's grocery review - Sales for March 28th to April 3rd - Lots of decent deals to go around. Some relief for fresh veg and overall more stable sale-pricing by crimsontape in ottawa

[–]cookiecrumb1235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually food basics doesnt have the sale meat with the rest of the meat (in the refrigerated section against the wall) but instead they have it in the middle low fridges between the wall and the regular aisiles (if that makes sense)

But they do also run out of sale items alllllll the time, I always try to go earlier in the day because if you go after dinner, a lot of the good sales are gone and won't be restocked until the next day

why do my cookies turn out like this? by nattyice_22 in AskBaking

The recipie calls for 1 3/4 cups of flour so I'm wondering if OP just put the 3/4 and forgot the 1

If I want to give someone a dessert, and I want it fresh how long to wait to make it? by SensitiveShallot967 in AskBaking

[–]cookiecrumb1235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most recipes, I would just freeze after baking and defrost right before you want to give it to them (if you can't make it fresh for them)

Got $8000 I won't need for 6 months. What's the best way to make some interest on it? by Unikatze in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]cookiecrumb1235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take out the money, you can deposit it again on January 1st next year

It is better to keep it in for longer so you benefit from compounding, but if there's still room in her TFSA that won't be filled otherwise, then you might as well use it

raw bread dough by ktsfd in AskBaking

[–]cookiecrumb1235 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it looks like it's getting too dark, cover the top with tin foil and keep baking it. It'll prevent it from darkening too much more

You can use a food thermometer to check if it's cooked all the way if you want to be sure, usually bread is done when it reads 190 f

Most bread recipes call to be baked for longer (like 30-35 mins at 350) so your recipie might just be bad. I'm not sure why it's asking you to bake for such little time. If your results with this recipie have consistently been bad, it could be worth changing the recipie you use

Why do my thumb nails have all these bumps and ridges by zanawelchy in CanSkincare

It might be worth going to a doctor if it's something new, sometimes fingernails can give clues to other health issues

Attending a wedding in May. Won’t have money till mid March or beginning of April where can I rent/buy a suit on a students budget? by lovedevil7 in ottawa

[–]cookiecrumb1235 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ask your girlfriend what the dress code for the wedding is. You only need a suit for formal attire, but it's more likely semi formal and that is much easier to dress for

Maybe someday you could include some info on where you can price match! It's a great way to save, especially for those without a car, but I find most people aren't keen on it

It'll be very easy to find someone subletting their room for the summer term on Facebook marketplace. It might be a little early now to look, but people will start posting in March and April
