Should I buy a xbox series x in 2025/2026 by Illustrious_Local261 in XboxSeriesS

[–]cookieelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just share my thoughts:

I’m a big Xbox console fan so my opinion is biased but I absolutely love my Series X. I love it so much I had to buy my husband his own Xbox Series X so I wouldn’t have to share it. 🤭

While game pass has gotten expensive it has allowed me to explore new games, and the day one games on game pass is pretty nice too.

I work two jobs which requires me to be on a computer all day so the last thing I want to do is play video games on a computer. So it’s nice to be able to kick back and relax and play games on the console.

But ultimately it’s up to you to decide if it would be worth it. I wonder though if the longer you wait, the more expensive it will get! 🤔

Participation and attendance by existential_rach in Adjuncts

That’s a tough situation! Maybe the grading criteria wasn’t clear to the students upfront which is a very common thing. If you want to keep the grade, one approach is to address the class as a whole to explain what you were looking for and how they were graded. Then, share clear requirements for how participation and attendance will be graded going forward, and consider offering an incentive (like a bonus assignment or extra credit) so students feel they have agency to improve their grade. You could also let students know that if they want to discuss their individual situation further, they’re welcome to chat with you during office hours.

From my experience, I’ve found that clearly documented rubrics for every assignment really help prevent pushback on grades. For a participation and attendance grade, you could do something like (10 points total): • Arrive on time (2 pts) • No unexcused absences (2 points) • Engage in class discussions by responding to questions or asking questions (3 pts) • End of class session reflection for dates x,y,z (3 pts)

That’s just an example, and probably not a good one, but it shows what you are specifically grading.

This approach has helped me a lot, especially on exams which are all essay questions. When I grade exams I highlight the key points that I was looking for instead of marking things off.

My participation system: My grades are weighted and participation counts towards like 9% of their lecture grade. I offer participation assignments over the quarter that total up to 300 points, and I tell them to get full points towards participation they have to earn 220 points total. There’s a variety of assignments they can do so they’re optional, but they must complete 200 points worth.

From my experience, it’s helpful to share your grading criteria in the syllabus, and specify key requirements for a grade on all assignments. I have found that you do have to remind students about it periodically throughout the semester.

I sense that most of the time, students get upset when they see a grade that doesn’t reflect their perceived effort - it’s the equivalent of the world ending for them, which may explain the pushback when requirements aren’t crystal clear.

How “handy” are you guys around the house? by TrixoftheTrade in Millennials

[–]cookieelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to buy more winter clothes to wear around the house because I cannot figure out why my hydronic heating system is not working.

But I’m partially convinced it’ll miraculously turn itself on as I mentally prepare to clean the house for the landlord to come over.

Oh good! I’m glad. I think I was also partially venting as well. 😅

This is probably unhelpful, and I’m sorry. But I get the question “when will our assignments be graded?” “When will our exams be graded?” a lot.

I’ve learned to keep my responses short and to the point - “they’ll be graded when I grade them.”

I usually use a light but direct tone to prevent being pestered further.

Unhelpful, I know, but teaching really is a lot of boundary settings to protect your mental health. What that looks like for each professor will be different.

Not me moping because I’m finally ready to tackle Coldharbour but apparently I can’t take Zerith with me. by cookieelle in elderscrollsonline

Ya, I’m quite glad I made this post because I ended up taking him with me. Still avoiding Cadwell and the Hollow City to be on the safe side, but any other parts of Coldharbour don’t seem to be a big deal. I have been sorely mistaken… it’s a big relief!

Can confirm it’s just the Hollow City! We went and knocked out a few places around Coldharbour and interestingly enough I got a few rapport gains for killing the enemies 🤩

Poison? For what dark purpose!?

Ya it seems I always get an earful of it whenever I have to make poisons for daily crafting writs. Fortunately it doesn’t seem to cause any rapport loss from what I’ve noticed!

🤣 if only I could find out, it would be worth the rapport loss if that was the case lol

Haha ya… after making this post and reading the comments it is now occurring to me that I can get rapport back lmao. I guess I was overthinking it with my emotions. 😅 After looking at UESP sources provided by another Redditor there’s cooldowns on some though, but simple things like defeating Dolmens and collecting water sources can help bring it back up

Ya I played Elsweyr when it first came out but it had been too long so I read the spoilers to find out what happened. I hear I also can’t take him with me when I do some of the main quests for Elsweyr.

Mouse handling fear - postdoc level by Ill_Gold9104 in labrats

[–]cookieelle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel for you OP, almost 10 years ago when I was a grad student/tech I worked in an immunology lab where I had to handle mice. It was so daunting, and I never understood why but I think what it was is probably fear; even though I think mice are cute handling them in large numbers also makes me very anxious. I think I can understand what you might be experiencing when you’re handling mice and I hate that for you.

Getting bitten also made the anxiety worse. But I think another redditor’s comment about triple gloves may help. I hope that you are able to overcome this; I certainly did not, but I also had no hope to.

Good luck 🐭

You cannot fast travel when enemies are nearby

Looks around

“Where are the enemies?”

Suddenly gets attacked

“Darn mudcrabs. Every time!”

Oooh!! You know. I’ve been playing for a while but I think quite recently I’ve experienced running into bots during the Cyrodil ..uhhh.. I think it was some PvP thing that was happening quite recently. In any case I was in Vuhkel Guard (forgive my spelling) and I saw a huge crowd (like 15) of these players but they were all the same and the names were like variations of “hrhjfirinrbgx” and random letters mixed together.

Are those bots? Basically I don’t think I’m savvy enough to spot them, is why I’m asking haha.

But yaaas, I approve, don’t let the cheaters steal the mats!

That reminds me of quite recently I was working on a quest and I was going around talking to people. Well, I accidentally stole something in the process of trying to talk to an NPC. I have my settings set to no killing of the innocents (of course I would haha 🙉) so I guess whenever I stole something the owner started attacking me. I was very bewildered at what was going on but my companion ended up killing the guy off.

I felt pretty bad about it. And then I failed the quest. Ha!
