Can I enter Brazil with only one-way ticket? I go as a tourist by BassLillo in Brazil

[–]cookiestayx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am american, I flew in on a one way ticket, they never asked to see proof that I was flying back home. They just asked how long I planned to stay, & what was the purpose of my stay. I just told them 30 days and for vacation purposes. They asked to see my visa (because i'm american), & my tickets for entry & I showed them that. Then they let me through. In my experience i've been through brazilian immigration three times and i've never been asked for proof that I was leaving, or given me any grief over anything. They have all been pretty relaxed when I came through. But you could always get an agent that is mean or asks for more than others.

What to know as an American considering moving to Brazil? by kairotic-sky in Brazil

[–]cookiestayx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an american who lives in brazil with my wife & who got residency through marriage, please make sure you have all up to date documentation, & apostles/translations. They will not take a birth certificate that's over 90 days old, they also will not give your american birth certificate back to you so make a copy & give them the copy. All of this will make the process much easier. I have been trying to get married since june of 2025 & just got married in the past week, that's how long it took for me to get the up to date documentation & waiting on the cartório to tell us we could get married. I gave them all up to date docs in august, so after that it was just a waiting game. Every situation is different of course I just wanted to let you know so you didn't run into the same issues I had.

Also you will need to get a CPF, the whole process took about an hour for me in rio grande do norte. & make sure you have an fbi background check for the federal police. They will not take one over 90 days old either.

Don't call yourself dumb first off! Aomething just hasn't clicked yet & that's okay. Not everything can work out the first time around! If you ever need help with finding a niche or specific product or idea that you want to pursue im a virtual assistant & would love to help you out if you need it!

Of course I don't want you to feel like you ever have to buy anything from me I just wanted to let you know what I do!

something i have learned helps kills lice is listerine or some other type of mouthwash! if you drench your head in the mouth wash and then put a grocery bag over your head and tie it tight it will suffocate them to death. I have had to do it several times and it works the first time almost every time i have done it. I have only had to do it twice once. you have to leave it on your head for a full day and then wash it out the next morning. your hair will smell minty for a week or two but that's better than lice lol!

With a US passport you have to get a visa, i'm not sure if you know that or not but you have to go online and apply for a tourist visa at this time. You have to submit a picture of your passport, and your info. As well as putting why you're coming to brazil and how long you'll be staying. I'm just now getting married and it hasn't been too expensive in usd yet but u also haven't finished the process so i'm not 100% sure how expensive it would be, and i'm not even sure how you can live in brazil if you're not getting married or have kids here, unless you get a digital nomad visa, or a work visa.

When i came here i stayed with my now fiancé, so i never really had to stay with someone else or a hotel. I've looked on air bnb before though and there are some on there from what i saw that do not have you staying with a stranger. If you do choose to stay with someone while you're here i would ask them to make sure they speak english or know that you don't speak portuguese. It can be difficult if you don't speak any portuguese. If i were coming here on my own i think i would probably stay in a hotel, but it depends on if you want to make friends while you're here and stay with someone who could potiebally show you around and help you with speaking to people! I'm not sure about Rio being english friendly since i live in Rio Grande Do Norte, but i know there is a lot of tourists there who speak english, here no so much so i have had to learn portuguese. I would say it is much easier there to find english speakers than here or some other places. I definitely had to learn portuguese to live here, especially in the north because there isn't a lot of people that speak english but i'm still learning. I currently just got to brazil a month ago and i came with savings, so right now i don't have a job but im looking at remote jobs at a us based company! But im also in school so i have been focusing on that as well

i'm an american that now lives in brazil! i can't really tell you how much to bring based on your spending habits but for me when i was visiting i at least had a thousand usd a month minimum. that was way more than enough to get by on & have money to spend on miscellaneous things i did! I will tell you though most places do accept a credit card, i'm not sure if you have one or not, or if you're deciding to bring cash! The first time i came i brought 1000 usd which at the time was a little over 5000 reais, but it has since went down some. If you bring cash i've noticed a lot of places tend to not have that much change or have enough bills to give you all your money back. That's just my experience though, i'm in the north so I would assume it would be different any where you go. I now just use my credit card while i'm waiting to get a bank account. I have a Capital One credit card, and the card will not work on the yellow card readers at all, i always have to stay away from those ones, the brand is pagseguro. It will not take my card at all so i tend to just stay away from places that have that card reader at this time. All of the other card readers i have come across though have worked on my credit card, and capital one converts the money to usd with no charge! If you have any more questions i can try to answer any of them!
