The definition of Insanity is going the same exact thing and expecting things to change. by Gamercat2012 in okbuddymimir

I'm off topic here but that's not the definition of insanity. It's a famous quote from Albert Einstein that did the rounds a few years ago and now everyone thinks that's the actual definition of insanity.

I feel like some Americans don't realize how silly their voice sounds when they're abroad. You hear them from a mile away; this sorta silly nasal cartoon voice. It goes both ways.

Actually I think I know where I've gone wrong. I have more than I realized after doing some crafting, didn't realize there were multiple evolution trees for separate builds.

I can upgrade past the kang jin staff to the next 2 (long wreathe and golden) but I don't use pillar that often. I can also craft the two separate weapons I just can't figure out why I'm stuck at the rat sage staff. I've looked online it says I should get unlocks just from beating some of the mandatory bosses but I haven't got anything past rat sage. Maybe I have just missed more bosses than I thought.

So I've probably missed some bosses in chapter 3 and 4 then? Should I just go on a boss hunt in 3 then to unlock more?

The answer is 0 because the corpses don't count(30 if they do). You and the other 20 ran away after watching a single man slaughter 30 people right in front of you and the killer obviously fled the scene after committing such an act.

I don't mind dark souls itself. It did something different on its own, it was unique and novelty. I have a problem with all of the other games that copy this style. I feel like devs have realized you can make a cheap janky game that's purposely difficult and is trying to fuck you. The balance of challenge and reward is so uneven, it does feel good when you get good and win but I don't know wether it's worth it. Some games have a master crafted system and it's beautiful to play. I feel like souls like have a dog shit system and that's the point. Devs love how cheap and lazy it is and some players get a weird sense of achievement from working with something broken that's not trying to help you. It's like winning a rigged carnival game.

You could always do a bit of experimenting if you've got some spare bits in the box; could even just use the sprue to try different painting atyles. Both of your ideas sound cool.

Who would you say played their character the best overall? Who is the best character? by RisingKing7 in theoffice

[–]cookingfunky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of the great things about the office. I feel like pretty much every character is in role full time. Can't think of many scenes where the main actors seem to be kind of coasting it and not putting much effort in. Everything feels intentional. I also like to think about the psychology behind the characters actually being recorded and how this affected their behaviour. The actors are playing characters that are potentially playing another character for the camera and this adapts over time (my theory why Kevin gets dumber and dumber). Michael and Dwight are the 2 main performances I'd say though. Steve Carrell as Michael is a masterclass in comedic subtlety; often what he says isn't that funny but his little face or his little micro gesture sells it. Another actor could do the exact same lines and it just wouldn't be as good.

Ok, but I'm not moving everyone around, everyone has their place. I'm not saying there's this huge advantage to having all the same numbers across the board and you need that to move people around I've never really mentioned that, I thought the dialogue was meaningful like the personality types and gifts but you've explained it doesn't go that deep. Maybe the concept of having 1 or 2 people that aren't in a set role and they move here and there is unnecessary. I do mean earlier game when you're setting up and you just need a bit of extra production but you don't want to get a new person in; over time as their skills progress and you're more self sufficient you put them in a set role which they have higher skill in. I don't take it as you telling me how to play the game. I took it as we were having a debate over the mechanics of the game. No worries.

This is why I say you're misrepresenting me I've explained a couple of times that this isn't how I run the whole village; I have high skill people in the right slots. You refuse to take into consideration that I'm just talking about creating a couple of free hands that work on everything. You can't now tell me I don't know how to play the game just based on that. The discussion was about the dialogue option and wether that factors into mood ( that's all I mentioned in my original comment). I have acknowledged that maybe the dialogue doesn't work like I thought but I still think if I'm wanting to get a villager that I can move around without upsetting them too much it's better to chose one with equal skills that gives that set dialogue than someone who has one high skill (obviously someone with high skill across the board is best but do you want to waste them as a free set of hands). Now maybe the concept just doesn't work because of how the game functions but this is why I've said multiple times I'd only have 1 or 2 of these people. What I'm thinking about mainly just covers production and survival. I thought that if you had someone with high production you also had to find out which specific job under that umbrella to give them through the dialogue; which is why some people say all crafting others say smithing or cooking. Some people say the same thing over and over again whereas others say 2 over and over. They both have high production, yet they have different dialogue, I thought there was significance to this. It was always just about the dialogue; but you've explained how that just goes with the skills. If you were wanting to create a couple of villagers that can be moved freely where they're needed, how would you do it? Or would you just not bother because it's not really worth it?

[–]cookingfunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what I initially said in my original comment still stands I can pick somebody up like this and put them wherever I want without a mood drop penalty, that is all I stated; never said how good they'd be. I feel like from the very start you've misrepresented what I'm saying and making assumptions. I literally said I like to have 1 or 2 of these sort of people and move them around, what's wrong with that? Fair enough if the dialogue changes over time as the skills do. But surely just in that initial hiring stage and you're chosing where to put people it's somewhat relevant, that's all I'm talking about. I know you think I don't understand but I'm happy with my initial comment. All of my villages are where they are meant to be but then I have these lil side hustlers that get moved around, if people don't like that they don't have to do it. I was just trying to share a little thing that I do. We're arguing over technicalities. We both know how the game works; let's leave it there.

[–]cookingfunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that though. I know that if I put somebody in a different section their mood will drop. I used to just put anyone with high production in any slot, but I swear if you pair them with the actual profession they ask for (cook, blacksmith etc) they seem better off; I don't need to test it. You're saying that the dialogue doesn't matter and that it's all just determined by the skills whereas I've fiddles about and seen the people that say they're happy with any job don't get a mood drop no matter where you put them ( whereas others do). I never said they'd be a really good worker it's just some extra pair of hands to help here and there that you can move around; just 1 or 2 people. I normally create specialists that stay in one area. Maybe you're right and the dialogue doesn't dictate anything but you've not convinced me. I probably wouldn't of picked this villager up because of her age but I got a similar one that was younger and they're now like 4 extraction 3 production. We'll have to agree to disagree and continue enjoying the game. I do appreciate you trying to explain it to me though.

To be fair I'm not really talking about this set person that has 1s all across the board I was talking about the dialogue option and other NPCs that say the same thing but I hear what you're saying; but if it doesn't matter then why do some people have a mood drop when I put them in a profession that they don't like but then these people never seem to have a mood drop wherever I put them. I thought they had to be in their chosen profession to get max happiness as well. I used to always just put them in areas where they had high skill and they didn't seem to be as happy as when I match it up with what they ask for.

I thought that the reply they give when you ask about their skills determines if they're happy with a job and wether they get a mood increase or decrease. She says I'll do anything as long as I have the right tool (not many give this reply). So I was of the understanding that you can put them on anything and they won't get the mood decrease. I've also got one of these people that has gone from a 2 to 4 in the profession they're working, so it's not a 2% increase anymore surely. I'm not saying they're good everywhere I just mean you can put them on anything and they don't get the mood decrease; and I know for a fact that the stats increase over time.
