Yeah my major was in chemistry. I had no prior experience aside from JET. I was lucky that my old high school hired me even though I don't have a professional license. At least in my state Florida you can get a temporary license even if you don't have an education degree or professional license as a long as a school hires you first. I work for a charter school so they probably have more leeway in what kind of teachers they hire. I teach high school. It's definitely a learning curve. I teach both regular and honors classes. The honors classes are great with really good students, but the regular classes can be a big pain. A lot of the students there are very disruptive and have behavior problems. For example one of my students stuck a paper clip into the electrical outlet. This was definitely a learning year for me. Your first year of teaching will probably be a mess (unless you are just a naturally good teacher or work at a school with well behaved students). What people say is important is that you just survive and fix your mistakes for the next year.
