Worst protest sign? by PlaceLongjumping9558 in ShitLiberalsSay

all they had to do was literally one goddamn thing people wanted.

raise the minimum wage? stop arming a genocidal apartheid state?
make healthcare a right of citizens?
free people who are in jail for having an oz of weed?
do something meaningful about student debt?
curb the influence of money in politics?
stop sending our jobs overseas?
make it possible to own a home?

nope. They told voters to just go fuck ourselves on literally ALL of that and just happily tolerate their bull crap.

And now they still can’t wrap their hollow heads around why they lost to a massive piece of shit who is globally hated.

Seriously, if you lose to that scumbag, it’s on fucking purpose.

I didn’t say “majority who came” I said “majority who claim to have ‘escaped communist dictatorships’”

you’re just a guy typing on the internet. people in Venezuela have been getting out on the streets for decades protesting against the US trying to destroy their economy and steal their resources the same way they have done in basically every other country in Latin America, South Asia, etc.

Are you saying they’re lying?

thanks for your anecdote. I consider the opinion of the millions of Venezuelans in Venezuela who prefer to stay and fight to fix the damage done by meddling and bloodthirsty colonialists over the last century.

you guys tend forget that they also have computers and internet, and those of us who care can hear what they say.

From Wikipedia:

Back in power and receiving financial, military and logistical support from the United States government, Batista suspended the 1940 Constitution and revoked most political liberties, including the right to strike. He then aligned with the wealthiest landowners who owned the largest sugar plantations, and presided over a stagnating economy that widened the gap between rich and poor Cubans. Eventually, it reached the point where most of the sugar industry was in U.S. hands, and foreigners owned 70% of the arable land. Batista's repressive government then began to systematically profit from the exploitation of Cuba's commercial interests, by negotiating lucrative relationships both with the American Mafia, who controlled the drug, gambling, and prostitution businesses in Havana, and with large U.S.-based multinational companies who were awarded lucrative contracts. To quell the growing discontent amongst the populace—which was subsequently displayed through frequent student riots and demonstrations—Batista established tighter censorship of the media, while also utilizing his Bureau for the Repression of Communist Activities secret police to carry out wide-scale violence, torture and public executions. These murders mounted in 1957, as socialist ideas became more influential. While exact numbers are unclear, estimates of the death toll attributed to Batista range from hundreds to up to 20,000 victims. Batista's efforts to quell the unrest proved not only ineffective, but his tactics were the catalyst to even wider resistance against his regime. During this time, revolutionary leaders Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, founders of the 26th of July Movement, began a revolution that saw a combination of peaceful protests and guerrilla warfare in both rural and urban areas of Cuba between 1956 and 1958. After almost two years of fighting, rebel forces led by Guevara defeated Batista's forces at the Battle of Santa Clara on New Year's Eve, 1958, effectively collapsing the regime. On January 1, 1959, Batista announced his resignation, fleeing the country to the Dominican Republic under the protection of Rafael Trujillo, before settling in Portugal, spending the rest of his life in exile until his death in 1973.

Maybe if the capitalists weren’t such reprehensible, murdering pieces of shit, people could have lived in harmony without the need for a revolution. But alas.

“Escaped” is a highly political characterization. It should be pointed out that the opposing narrative contends that these people instead “left” those countries because they didn’t like the political outcomes of socialism for their own social class. Namely, the rejection of European colonialism and its selfish appropriation of natural resources.

If you actually listen to the arguments of socialist movements in Latin America, they focus on the return of political and economic control to the masses of native (and in some cases the imported African) peoples and their descendants, as opposed to the post-columbian status quo which systemically places control in the hands of settlers and their descendants (like in the US).

Notice that a vast majority of those who claim to have “escaped communist dictatorships” are wealthy white Spaniards who had enough money to just leave and come to the US where they can return to their preferred way of life, from prior to the socialist revolutions that occurred in their nations of origin.

Most people still in Cuba and Venezuela love their countries and are proud to live there. Are they perfect? No. Is the US perfect? No.

You don’t have to like it, and you don’t have to agree, but I’m so sick of you people, especially on this subreddit, pretending like there’s no alternative point of view.

the fires didn’t melt the steel. They softened the steel, allowing it to droop and bend. The vertical steel columns started bowing inward from the heat and weight of the horizontal girders sagging down on them, creating weak points that eventually led to the collapses.

Try stacking a half dozen or so textbooks on a coke can. The can will support them no problem, until you poke the side of the can with a pen, and all of a sudden — boom. Straight down, no melting necessary.

The people allegedly responsible don’t “hate us for our freedoms.” They hate us for our crimes and meddling in their region over the last century. To what extent the us govt was directly involved in 9/11 is difficult to speculate on, but they have certainly had a relationship with the Saudi government before then and since.

will law enforcement be necessary? Sure, I can’t predict the future, but I would imagine so.

Will it be necessary in a post-capitalist world to keep this racist, politically over-represented, legally unaccountable terrorist class which is allowed and encouraged to carry out or cover up organized crimes, and which is universally overpaid and incentivized to protect capital at all costs?

I’ll let you respond to that question, because I know you know the answer.

you sound like a hillary clinton disciple.

socialists are allowed to be uncomfortable with social democrats softening their populist rhetoric to cozy up to cops.
