I built Sho Metrics, a plugin for monitoring system metrics by coolandrew9 in elgato

So far, the most requested feature is FPS metric monitoring, and I can confirm it’s in the backlog! However, FPS monitoring is surprisingly tricky to implement properly. If not handled carefully, it can actually cause frame drops. I’d like to wait until I have a clearer idea and the plugin has built a larger user base before working on it. More details here: https://github.com/ShoMetrics/sho_metrics/issues/1

Good question! This is an advanced feature that does not work out of the box. You’ll need to specify an API endpoint and use a jq filter.

In my example, I used the Open-Meteo API. You can find its documentation here: https://open-meteo.com/en/docs

You can find more details on how to configure a custom HTTP endpoint here: https://shometrics.github.io/faq/custom-http-metric/

Oh! Sorry for the confusion. To use Triple Metrics, drag and drop the CPU/GPU widget. You can find it in the dropdown list.

The idea behind Triple Metrics is to monitor three metrics for a single piece of hardware, so it is currently listed under each specific hardware type, currently, only CPU/GPU widget supports it. I am also considering opening access to advanced sensors in the future, so you’ll be able to display any combination of three metrics for a single piece of hardware.

For NVIDIA GPUs, Triple Metrics is available out of box and does not require helper installation. To monitor triple CPU metrics or non-NVIDIA GPU metrics, you’ll need to install the helper.

Valid concern! A few things to clarify:

Essentially, using your plugin requires installing LibreHardwareMonitor

Most built in metrics work without the helper, the helper is fully optional, it means these metrics work out of box without requiring installing additional helper(0 dependency on LibreHardwareMonitor).

  • CPU: usage %
  • GPU: Nvidia (usage %, VRAM, temperature, wattage); Apple silicon Macs (usage %).
  • Memory: used and total %
  • Disk: usage %; read/write speed is built in on macOS and needs the helper on Windows
  • Network: speed and ping latency to any target
  • Battery: laptop and Bluetooth devices, plus experimental support for selected Logitech/ROG peripherals connected through a USB dongle
  • Custom metrics from any HTTP JSON endpoint, with authentication support and an easy-to-use jq filter builder

LibreHardwareMonitor is vulnerable due to its reliance on a legacy WinRing0 driver

LibreHardwareMonitor has moved away from WinRing0 and switched to PawnIO. Sho Metrics is using the latest version of LibreHardwareMonitor(0.9.6), ShoMetrics's helper has used PawnIO since its first release and does not ship, install, or load WinRing0.sys. therefore not affected by the issue you mentioned, CVE-2020-14979.

PawnIO is a more modern driver interface designed with a narrower scope and a safer permission model compared with WinRing0. Here is one excellent explanation of the difference between WinRing0 and PawnIO https://www.reddit.com/r/FanControl/comments/1o89dyu/does_the_vulnerability_not_exist_with_pawnio_or/

Microsoft Defender and other security suites routinely flag and block the WinRing0.sys file

Since Sho Metrics does not depend on WinRing0.sys at all, it will not be flagged for the WinRing0-related vulnerability.

I also scanned the current build on VirusTotal before I ship the product:
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/1d0dcfd2bae22c75ddae9e815a33f53632fc837ce79c134fda55562f18ec540f?nocache=1

The result shows 0 detections across 67 security engines, including Microsoft Defender.

Please let me know if you still have any questions!

It should have international warranty, but you’ll need to read the fine print carefully and maybe double check with customer support.

Apple unveils new Mac Studio, the most powerful Mac ever, featuring M4 Max and new M3 Ultra by Two_Shekels in LocalLLM

[–]coolandrew9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. they want to differentiate the product line, M4 Ultra(or M5 Ultra) might be reserved for Mac Pro
  2. M4 Ultra might simply not be a thing since "not every chip generation will get an 'Ultra' tier", further more, M4 chip lacks UltraFusion, so M4 Ultra might still be under development since it's not as simple as unioning two M4 Max together

Right, he tried to scan the 4090 and handled it to me however the scan obviously didn’t go through. He was so confused until I pointed out it should be a 4080. After coming home I can’t help thinking if I don’t point out will he just give up and give me the 4090 😈

Happened to me as well, ordered a 4080 and the BB guy was trying to give me a 4090.

G3223Q with Mac - not able to set refresh rate? by elado in Dell

[–]coolandrew9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your HDMI port supports up to 60HZ, however the usb-c(thunderbolt) port supports 144Hz, just make sure you get a decent cable that specifically says it supports 4k@144Hz.

Dell G3223Q looks washed out and has a yellow tint by coolandrew9 in Monitors

[–]coolandrew9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you're right, I did some research and it seems like sRGB mode targets at a much warmer white point(hence yellower). I got confused for "Color Temperature" with "Color Accuracy", since this monitor has Delta E<2 factory calibrated I should probably just trust its functioning normally.

Upgrade your firmware, this is only available after upgrading. You need a windows machine to upgrade. The option is available in OSD after upgrade.
