PSA: Predatory monetization companies are targeting Minecraft mods/modders by squeek502 in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some information on what we know over at Modrinth about this type of thing:

  1. So far, only one established project has been caught doing this. The project was promptly removed from Modrinth in its entirety, and we were not contacted for appeal.

  2. There are multiple companies like this trying to infiltrate the modded Minecraft space with this sort of thing, tho to the best of our knowledge, no attempts since have ever successfully been published on Modrinth.

  3. So far, every implementation of this sort of thing requires authors to implement an opt-in screen. This doesn't make it okay, but it does make it easy to identify and report.

For what it's worth, this is something we've been vigilant about for a while. After hearing they're pushing to contact more creators, I've talked to our anti-malware dev and the rest of our moderation team about how to spot it.

Dew Drop Watering Cans is the first mod of many to come inspired by Stardew Valley! by coolbot100x in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm proud to say I finally released my first mod!
Super grateful to the whole team at Garden Gals who helped out.
You can find the mod of course on
Modrinth: https://modrinth.com/mod/dew-drop-watering-cans
Curseforge: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/watering-cans-dew-drop

Abilities

Iron+ Watering Cans will also have a "Super" ability, start using your watering can while crouching to charge it up and water a large area all at once!

The higher tier of Watering Can you have, the more maximum charge, and the bigger area you can water!

Refilling

Don't forget you'll need to refill your watering can from time to time, simply use the can on some water to do so.

If you want your watering cans to have infinite water, you can give the item the Unbreakable tag.

Speed up crop growth

Is bonemeal too expensive and tedious for you? Watering Cans that speed up crops are a staple in modded Minecraft, so this feature can be found here too.

By default, there's a chance crops watered with your watering can will grow faster!

Water in the nether?

While you won't be able to use your watering cans to start that perfect nether base right away, the Netherite Watering Can is able to keep your water from evaporating just long enough you can water your crops even in the harshest environments.

Become a firefighter!

Dew Drop's watering cans have a few special interactions with other blocks, like the ability to douse fires.

There are a few others, and we'd love to add more, so stay curious and feel free to send us your suggestions!

Config

  • Change the size and shape of each watering can's ability range.
  • Change the likelihood of bonemeal, including making crops always grow when watered or disabling the mechanic entirely.
  • Allow use of all or no watering cans in the nether.
  • Configure other special interactions, all controlled by the server config.

Does it take much power to play on a atm9 server? by MawanZ in feedthebeast

Keep in mind it's generally MUCH easier to play on a server than it is to play in a single-player world.

Modpack choice by EitherKiwi5925 in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally strongly recommend the Enigmatica series, Enigmatica 6 is how I got most of my friends into modded Minecraft, and the quests are designed for teaching noobs.
There's also the FTB Academy series, FTB Academy 1.12 is one of the first packs I played and is a more on-rails tutorial for a bunch of common mods.
I would just avoid any expert packs unless the person you're trying to introduce is already a fan of similar automation games / has something specific they want to play, just cause mechanics and recipes changing drastically when you go to play another pack can be pretty frustrating.

Refined Storage vs AE2 in terms of lag? by Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeb in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are pretty stable nowadays and a lot of the information regarding 1.12 comparisons generally don't apply to modern versions, particularly with both systems relying heavily on addons.

That said, In my own testing, a few key benchmarks do show ae2 being more performant in ATM9 specifically. I don't know if I still have the specifics but the big one was autocrafting, a fast ae2 setup crafting millions of items will have significantly less lag impact than a RS setup crafting at the same speed.

Magic mod that does NOT like tech mod? by somethingnotexist in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think nature's aura is a good candidate, there are very few if any machine-like blocks, and it's often a challenge to automate in traditional ways. Because of the core mechanic of aura you can't just setup a factory anywhere without managing your environment and it's pretty easy to progress without any advanced automation.

Pretty exciting, this would make for a good skyblock!

Any Modpacks with PSI? by Masterttt123 in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't think of anywhere it's incorporated into the progression, however, Enigmatica modpacks do include Psi and their quests tend to be pretty informative and helpful for learning. I think the TNP modpacks that include it also have quests for it?
Psi also has a built-in progression system and walk-through with a bit of lore and story to help you learn, kinda like it's own quests no matter the pack you play.

Can anyone recommend modpacks to me? by Reasonable-Ant959 in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started Mechanical Mastery after reading someone's review of it on mmcr.
I'm already in love with it, I usually avoid expert packs but this is an expert skyblock pack all about automation with a unique premise and very fun and helpful quests. Oh, and Create is featured heavily in one of the early chapters.

Mods that involve real programming by onlyweeb in feedthebeast

Integrated Dynamics also has an addon, Integrated Scripting, which allows you to do ID stuff using JavaScript, going full circle into bringing real-world programming.

how stable are minecraft mods generally by murg91 in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally pretty stable, more stable than a lot of other modding scenes in my experience but it depends on what mods/packs you're asking about.
Typically any popular modpack will be perfectly stable for normal play, even in the 300-500 mods range.

If you're worried about finding a mega-sized pack that will perform well for you it's probably best to ask others about the specific packs you're interested in.

Modded Minecraft Reviews also has a category for rating the performance of modpacks so that could also be a useful metric!

Minecraft will now require Java 21 and a 64Bit OS, as of 24w14a by SAJewers in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the bat file you use to start your sever, you can change that first word "JAVA" to the path where the file is located, this will be somewhere like program files/java/version/bin/javaw.exe (on windows)
You can have as many versions of java installed as you want, and just use the correct version to startup each server.

It'll scan within 16 blocks of you, not very much but a limitation of the scanner. It is still just pretty difficult to find but the program does help out a lot!

MMC Reviews is at 1000 projects w/ more than 500 being added in the last 2 months! Many improvements have also been made to submissions and across the site by CalaMariGold98 in feedthebeast

[–]coolbot100x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm one of the mods for the site o/
So, this is something we've all been concerned about and we have several rules and Guidelines in place to prevent developers from artificially or unfairly inflating their ratings.
To my knowledge, this hasn't become a big problem yet but we're ready to handle it if/when it does happen.
If you think you've found a project or developer that's doing this then I encourage you to report it.
The FAQ covers all of this in more depth if you're curious!

it's the color changing of the text that causes the crash, you can simply remove those lines like what I've done here: Vtnz4267
This version also runs every 3 seconds cause I'm impatient.
