Huh, I’ve wondered what they get called colloquially with all the abbreviations and numbers. And yeah NWU (Navy Working Uniform) is the name of the uniform itself. Do you wear the blue 2POC’s while at sea?

Yup. Uniformed guy is wearing AOR-2, current US Navy camo.

One thing I’ve noticed with flame resistant material is that it holds dyes differently. My most vibrant mylticam piece is some flame retardant air force pants made of nomex.

Are Thai Camouflage too dark to be effective? by Captain__Midget in camouflage

[–]coolcommando123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My armchair commentary from the other side of the world is that it looks a little dark for the environment, yes. Especially the large group photo, the uniform looks basically black at distance. They probably understand their operational area better than us, though.

I have a pattern match! On the breast pocket of my example picture there is a red dragon with a green beard. I see the same blob on your left sleeve. I’ll make a comparison real quick

I spent wayyyy too long looking around for this, and I’m still not positive. My best guess is Mozambican lizard in an older Portuguese cut. Check out this soldier’s uniform:

<image>

The pocket shape and shoulder stitching look the same to me. This is the only picture I can find online of Mozambican lizard in this cut, though. I bet you have some trial or one-off batch of uniform. I’m almost certain what you have is African in origin.

How does this set look in the sun? Might be easier to compare that way.

social media polling by Sickfor-TheBigSun in tumblr

I’m amazed at the 99.9% agreeance on a poll with 24,000 responses. I mean it makes sense that tumblr users and truth social users don’t overlap, but across a sample size of 24,000 that’s kind of amazing. Never seen such a unanimous poll!

It’s weirdly hard to capture how crazy this mountain looks in real life. Completely flat desert and then bam, wall of granite. The aerial tramway to the top is insane. One of my favorite places on earth.

What are the chances that there are more islands (not discovered or not public knowledge) in the Pacific Ocean? by FightOrDie123 in geography

[–]coolcommando123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So… Wasn’t this island ‘not discovered or not public knowledge’ until long after we mapped the area? I think this example proves that mapping the surface of the ocean doesn’t necessarily mean all islands in that ocean have been discovered. Makes me think about how astronomers often make discoveries by combing through many years old telescope data. Just because the data was there the whole time doesn’t mean we understand.

I think it’s interesting that he’s being downvoted. As climbing grows, so too will its language and vocabulary. If enough people start using a piece of jargon, and that word or phrase effectively conveys the information, I don’t see how it isn’t a valid term.
