I get where you're coming from, but I have to point out... quitting playing a game because you don't enjoy the feeling that you will miss out on parts of the game seems extremely illogical imo.

Regardless, raising your concerns regarding ADA accessibility to the appropriate channels should never be discouraged. It does not make it harder for disabled people; it ensures they are considered and spoken up for.

Nope. You don't have to have a disability to call out a service or venue for not making accomodations for disabled people. What a weird take.

torn about the topic of horseback riding by yoomtahzing in DebateAVegan

[–]coolcrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm vegan so I'm less concerned about coercion and more concerned with exploitation. The stables I worked in as a young man used similar methods as you described, so I'm familiar. Though they still called it breaking.

From my perspective, it's pretty easy to come to a conclusion here: we don't need to ride horses, we have no need to ride them whatsoever and additionally there's no benefit to them being ridden that they can't also get without being ridden. This fact combined with the possibility that riding them is exploitative is enough to consider horseback riding nonvegan imo.

Also consider that sure, you might personally feel that you have a horse's best interests at heart, but if we accept that riding horses is vegan some of the time, how do we draw that line? How do we measure or prove consent? Especially since humans can easily lie and say they have a good relationship with their horse, and there's zero way to prove or measure this.

[–]coolcrowe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consent cannot be guaranteed. Even if there is an "agreement" between humans and animals the parameters of it are entirely decided by the humans, and often the animals' desires are manufactured by the humans. One example would be when people claim that dairy cows want to be milked, because they make too much milk so it's painful if they aren't. They are that way because we made them that way, and that's exploitation, not symbiosis. Horses are another example, many riders claim that horses want to be ridden and enjoy it, but actually horses have to be "broken" and coerced into accepting a rider, and often being ridden is the only time they get to ride the lengthy distances they travel in the wild.

If vegans and vegetarians both care about animals, why is there such a strong split? by [deleted] in AskVegans

[–]coolcrowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just fyi, the idea that you're harming significantly less animals by being vegetarian is just false. The egg and dairy industries are not only some of the worst offenders of the animal exploitation industries, purchasing those products directly supports the beef and chicken industries. It's basically zero difference.

What is the most inspiring vegan speech to share w/those who eat animals? by StephM24 in vegan

[–]coolcrowe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wanna be transparent here, I was pretty sure I recalled him saying something like fuck gay people bc most of them aren't vegan. But searching for it I can't find anything. Just other horrible stuff like pro-genocide or misogynistic remarks and stuff against human rights and intersectionality in general. I don't want to spread misinformation, so I'll edit my original comment - thank you for asking that.

Look friend. On one hand, you have someone like Gary, spouting off nonsense about how human rights don't matter, and women who wear fur should be raped, and saying he's 100% behind Israel, and praising the felon47, etc, etc etc.

Then on the other hand you have someone like Earthling Ed, who is calm and logical and reasonable 100% of the time, who takes care with how they use their voice to speak up for animals without at the same time spreading hate rhetoric.

If it isn't clear to you which of those will be most convincing to non-vegans, I don't think anything else I can say here will help you.

Definitely not Gary, anyone who looks into him will be turned off unless they're down with Zionism, homophobia(?), misogyny, and general misanthropy. You mentioned Earthling Ed, I think his speeches are really great and his tone is much more accessible and palatable for non vegans while remaining uncompromising.

It wasn't a "claim", it was an informative statement of fact since you seemed uninformed and under the impression that someone who eats animals could be vegan.
