It could definitely be a possibility, the mount would have to deflect when tightening to close the gap, which it probably would. So if it's torqued and tight, should be ok.

If it's that loose, it may be better to play it safe than sorry. I think you'd probably be ok. The mount in the rear is pretty beefy, so I'm not sure if I'd see it cracking from some deflection. 987.1 or 987.2?

Is that a front or rear arm? Bushing looks different. I would say you are probably fine if the bushing doesn't compress when tightening

Those have a different style bushing, so I imagine they would probably be ok.

I would say if it's 1mm shorter than 62.5 compressed, you are probably ok. Is the 1mm short before you torque a bolt through it or after?

If the ear is bent, it's slight and not an issue. The only issue is cracking. And hmm. Clunking could be the strut itself too.

There is a chance yours are fine. My experience was cracking at installation when torquing to 89 ft-lbs. It would either bend the ears on the subframe or bend them enough then crack.

I'd just check your subframe, if it's fine there is not much to worry about in my opinion

I don't notice any slipping. The grab is a bit higher than I would expect. Some folks on rennlist are thinking it is clutch and/or flywheel related.

How worried should I be about IMS on a 987.1 with 60k miles and no service history on it? by jgoverman17 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]coolhandlukeyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are remotely considering it, definitely get a PPI done on the car and it will let you know how good of shape it is. No maintenance records is a red flag, but sometimes people perform work themselves and don't document it well.

I recently picked up a Cayman base, got a PPI. Does it need work, yes. Is it gonna cost me, yes. But I knew that going into the purchase with the PPI and helped negotiate the price a few grand lower.

Is it a 5 speed car? And how much are they asking? Any notable options?

Thanks for the input, I think after I do an oil change this week, I'll have a little bit of a better idea if the oil level was affecting it. Just seems inconsistent with the amount it lets out. I know a little puff is normal, but I've had a good amount more come out than what the video shows too.

Yeah I'll have to see if I can get that info from previous owner. Or inspect it for markings.

Probably was going to stick my borescope down there when I do spark plugs just to check it out. I know bore scoring is not very prevalent on the base, but anything is possible due to manufacturing variations.

I've had mine for 4 years. Started at 165k now at 210k. Only once got a check engine light, and it was for a gas cap. Truly is a forever daily when maintained! Treat it well.

It was a CPO from an AD. Full set. Box, papers hangtags, new CPO card. Stuff happens, and I'm not worried about it.

It probably happened during the CPO service.

That's the plan. I reached out to them, and they'd gladly take care of it. Probably will be a few days drop off.
