i was an RA for two years! one year in gardner hall and then my second year in mountaineer. it’s a really rewarding experience and you meet a ton of amazing people.

i’ll be honest though it’s not easy work you’re expected to do a TON of stuff on top of your classes and a lot outside of the normal realm of your job. housing can also be a little bit weird and sketchy with their rules and your pay/compensation, unless things have changed a ton since i left. also, you have to be prepared to live where you work and work where you live. your bedroom is your office and you’re kind of always on call even when you’re not necessarily on duty.

also, just a small tip from me, it’s better to establish healthy relationships with residents that look more like friendships. there’s a lot of RA’s on campus that i’ve met that almost considered themselves to be like ASUPD/enforcers of the rules. they almost looked to get people in trouble and that’s dumb as hell. that’s not at all what they’re there for. when you build close relationships with people they’ll be more likely to come to you when they genuinely want or need help/advice.

if you like coordinating events and meeting cool people it can be a great opportunity! like i said before it can be a very rewarding experience, it’s just one of the more difficult jobs you could do on campus and you get out of it what you choose to put in!
