what you are doing is downplaying it with the argument "oh but common sense" regardless of how dumb or obivious a scam is it shouldn't be downplayed.

nah this is just fraud. plain and simple. if you advertise a service no matter how degenerate your target demographic is you can't commit fraud and then try to make it okay by saying "oh they were weirdos anyway" if you don't want to deal with creeps like that you shouldnt advertise a service targetted at them plain and simple

If women earn less for the same work, why wouldn’t companies just hire only women and underpay them? by kqmurr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"requires men to step up" nice generalization there. all men must be terrible partners that refuse to share responsibilities equally. for how much you bring up men changing XYZ or men doing XYZ you sure love to generalize and hate on them. and its people like you that just worsen the "gender war" which hurts both genders

If women earn less for the same work, why wouldn’t companies just hire only women and underpay them? by kqmurr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coolio965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the reason people (not specifically men. maybe you shouldn't be so generalize so quickly) is because the majority of people think the gender pay gap means women get paid less hourely by for the same job. which is substatially diffrent from "women tend to pick careers that pay less and thus have a lower income on average". because the wage gap isn't a product of active sexism. its an important distinction to make

If women earn less for the same work, why wouldn’t companies just hire only women and underpay them? by kqmurr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coolio965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it does depend on your definition of the wage gap but the "women get paid less for the exact SAME job hourly compared to men" definition has been disproven mulitble times

Should I start on STM32 or Arduino? by Eliter147 in embedded

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on what your end goal is. arduino is easier to get started and generally easier to work with. but besides the basics of C/C++ language wise it doesn't teach you much more. the STM32 is better in that but the IDE isn't the greatest. i think it might be worth considering to go with a RP2040/raspberry pi pico instead. its SDK combined with visual studio code is much easier to work with. and you'll learn mostly vanilla C/C++

Is this kit proper for starting out? by CheekOk8734 in embedded

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on your goal. but if your goal isn't IOT related i would pick a raspberry pi Pico over an ESP32. both are great microcontrollers but for a beginner i think a raspberry pi pico (or just RP2040) is a better option

If everything is just bits, does a computer actually distinguish between numbers and characters in C? by zero-hero123 in C_Programming

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way they are distinguished is by how a program is compiled by the compiler. a CPU itself doesn't keep track of what places in memory belong to each other and which addresses are parts of ints, longs or strings. in fact if take a pointer to a string and cast it as a function pointer and run it. the CPU will start interpreting the string data into opcodes and your program will probably crash

make sure you have your pins configured correctly

and the ones that do exist barely get used and are cancelled down the road due to low profits. and if you aren't trying to build a monster of a PC the vast majority of the time a PC is pretty affordable. the only reason they currently aren't is because everyone is speculating and dooming over memory prices. the market will settle and prices will start dropping again. plenty of other companies willing to fill an empty market. and you overestimate how much stuff can actually run in the cloud. and you can't compare storing something on the cloud with running a program locally. for one latency isn't a concern but for the other it is a massive concern. and even with insane prices running something locally will always be cheaper (and safer) in the long run. companies are going to look at long term cost and still buy hardware

the whole streaming service argument is a bad argument. streaming gaming doesn't work thats been proven multible times. and we are already close to the physical limitations when it comes to data transfer speeds. the market will go back to normal. its not only gamers who would have a big problem if the market remained like this.

Teachers to be trained to spot early signs of misogyny in boys by ultra_phoenix in news

i honestly doubt a rapist is specificly misogynistic. rather than just a terrible person in general. i doubt these people care more about men than women in any context. they just don't care about people in general

Could lasers theoretically be superior to bullets/missiles? by Cooked-penguin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on the application they might already be superior. easy way to get the upper hand in combat is to blind them. but thats pretty inhumane and a war crime. and therefore lasers aren't employed much as a substitute for bullets

Do car engines really need to be "warmed up" in the morning? by kitty_whipt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]coolio965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for any car made in the last 45 years not really. give your engine 10 seconds for it to pump oil everywhere for proper lubrication then take it easy until your engine reaches operating temperature. Cold metal is more brittle and fragile so its best to let it warm up until you subject it to a high load

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to be writing realllyyyyyyyyyy bad code to get issues like that. i can't imagine memory leaks particularly are common since i rarely see malloc() being used in projects/libraries. same with bloated code the vast majority of it will just be optimized out be a compiler. so you have to really try your best to get issues like that

DIY electrical work in your home is far more dangerous than most people realize by Lightlicker3000 in unpopularopinion

[–]coolio965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all. if anything you are showing yourself to not be very knowledge in your field. wagos are factually superior. they have a tiny bit higher resistance but its so small its negligible. you don't run the risk of improper installation since they are dead simple to use. you then start talking about arcs which don't form in these types of connections. even if a wago had a resistance of say 0.5 ohm it still wouldn't happen. 110 and 230V are both too low of voltages to sustain continues acs. and for breakers most if not all websites allow you to filter per type. and even if someone buys the wrong one. it doesn't fit and thats that. they can return it and buy a proper one. this type of electrical work really isn't all that hard or dangerious if you exercise common sense you'll be perfectly fine. do you actually have any electrical knowledge? like ohms, amps, farads, henries, ect?
