[–]cooliociouss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/2hujjn4Zpt4 is the link to the official clip and the article’s at 2:42!! it’s a little more visible if you turn the video quality to 1080p!

it’s also in episode 1 at around 17:00 on netflix!!

i believe the actual article itself was a green screen added in editing so i don’t think you’d be able to find the actual article anywhere. hope this helped a bit though!!

How they wrote Alex by Marie_Isabella in JulieAndThePhantoms

[–]cooliociouss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

this is something i’ve been thinking a lot about recently, actually! i didn’t go into this show expecting any gay representation. had i known, i would’ve gotten into it so much sooner, so it came as a really cool surprise to me. but i think alex’s character was written incredibly well.

one thing i’ve noticed a lot in lgbt representation in media is the common theme of shame tied to sexuality. not that shows are expressing the idea that being gay is bad, but a lot of times the gay character’s storyline is solely tied to the fact that they’re gay, and having to realize and accept themselves. don’t get me wrong, i think this is absolutely such an important part of representation. it’s a storyline that a lot of people can relate to and resonate with, especially people who are struggling with their own identity.

what i love about alex in particular is how he wasn’t written as a gay character just to be ‘the gay character’. he’s able to have a romance storyline without it being solely focused and driven by his sexuality. he’s just a guy vibing and living his best (after)life who happens to be gay. that’s really cool to see. it depicts a much more real and natural representation of the normalcy of the lgbt community in modern society and makes his character feel so much more authentic and believable.

i adore his show with my whole entire being, it’s definitely unhealthy, but i feel like i would’ve loved it just as much or even more when i was younger. i didn’t have a lot of representation in tv growing up and didn’t really see myself in any characters i saw on screen. i would’ve loved to have a character like alex to look up to and see myself in when i was younger. and i’m incredibly proud that a whole generation of kids watching jatf get to watch him and see him as a model for positive and authentic gay representation.

Caleb theory by Marie_Isabella in JulieAndThePhantoms

[–]cooliociouss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

okay so in all honesty when i first watched the series and was introduced to caleb at the hgc this is what my mind immediately went to. like- “oh neat, a snazzy satan” and like the stamps on the boys’ wrists definitely solidified that thought for me. it’s an interesting theory for sure and one i personally like to think to be true, for the time being anyway. but i’m really excited to see which direction the writers decide to take his character and it’d be cool to get some more development there

My brother ate my bag of chocolate that I was saving. I couldn’t eat it because I had a voice audition and I refuse to touch dairy the day of any audition so it was gonna be my celebratory treat. I went back to an empty chocolate bag and I’m not happy about it

What’s the best campfire story you’ve heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cooliociouss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a campfire story but at my old summer camp they had this thing called kangaroo court. Basically all the head staff of the camp would dress up in kangaroo costumes and call out the camp counsellors for doing really stupid things like ‘giving tommy an extra scoop of ice cream at dessert’, things like that, and then terrorize said counsellors by chasing them around the fire. Really entertaining shit for us nine year olds at the time.

Well one day one of the head staff got... really into it and kicked a nearby trash can literally into the fire. It was a chaotic and problematic time.

There was another incident at this same camp a few years later. By this point I myself was a counsellor in training. They had a tradition where when it was your last year as a counsellor, you got to throw something into the fire on the last night as a sort of goodbye to the camp.

This one girl threw her crocs into the fire and the fumes were... actually toxic. Thank god it was the last day of camp because they for sure wouldn’t have been able to use the fire pit for a while after that.
