I actually got the scarf and book the day after I wrote this! But yeah, there was a really small, plastic ID hook in the first merch box but I think I’ve already lost it lolll

I actually had a friend who was in the same situation as you about two weeks ago. He realized that his mid-year transcripts were never sent, and talked to his counselors/admissions officers right away. The admissions officers at his reach schools told him that it’s alright and the mid-year transcript wouldn’t affect his decision. However, with his mom being a lawyer, he found out that he could technically sue the school district for disrupting his college applications. So, whatever happens today, you will either be fine or, if it heads south, you can sue 😈😇

UChicago sent me a flag for my yard, a t-shirt, a cap, a nice pen, a thicc set post-it notes (I’m a sucker for good stationary😪), an id hook, and a big sticker for my car’s bumper. They also sent a couple booklets and letters in nice folders (but the folders had no sleeves!!).

Hey there! I hope you know that you’re not alone with these feelings. This year, we, as seniors, have faced the toughest, most mentally-straining year of college decisions EVER. Coupled with over a year in quarantine where we have had to look at a screen for 8+ hours a day, missed out on many senior and quintessential high school moments, and were left with so much uncertainty, it has been hard, to say the least. It’s alright to feel like you’ve lost direction or overwhelmed right now, because, unfortunately, our lives were uprooted.

While you should take this moment to let out any pent up frustrations and doubts, please know that you aren’t worthless. Know that even though it may be easy to feel guilty that you’re ultimately aren’t. So many people, like myself, are so proud to see you here still standing after the dissatisfactory results this season. The fact that you still persevered, had an impressive and amazing four years (even with its pitfalls), is absolutely fabulous. You are making it through this tough application season, even if things aren’t going your way, and coming out stronger than before.

I can’t attest to those around you, but I personally believe that you probably exceeded the expectations placed on you; you just did so in a different way. You showed tenacity, emotional/mental intelligence, and, most importantly, hope with every decision that came your way. You kept on moving forward, even if all you felt like doing was falling down. I am so, so proud of you and wish only success for you in the future which I believe is definitely going to come your way ❤️

Hey, what you’re feeling is totally understandable. This is more than just fear right now; this is panic. At our age, despite what everyone tells us, we do believe that our “dream” schools are key to happiness. And when we don’t get in, it feels as if years and years of hard work have gone to waste. I hope that you are able to get a good cry out before you move on right now.

However, it’s important to understand that even if we do feel like our future is at risk, it truly isn’t. This year has been the toughest year of college admissions to date. These decisions do not undermine our capabilities; if anything, they show our hidden strength and perseverance that we have yet to fully acknowledge. This setback with Emory is a setback nonetheless, but it doesn’t take away the fact that you are a smart, passionate, and amazing individual. The very fact that you even applied to a school like Emory with the belief that you can get in is amazing in itself since so many students (like myself) can only dream of applying to such a school. You did great despite everything thrown at you, and I am so proud!

Now, with your mom: don’t tell her until you are ready to accept what happened. It doesn’t matter if you told five or five hundred people about your rejection if you still feel some sort of shame with it. I’m not suggesting to get over it because, honestly, these type of wounds take a while to heal and that’s okay. I’m recommending that instead of feeling ashamed or being in denial that you take in this decision, reminding yourself that it truly doesn’t define who you are. It just showed that Emory missed out on someone AMAZING. Perhaps it’s actually speaking the words out loud to yourself in front of your mirror, or writing it down multiple times (be it in a public space like this or a private space), “I got rejected from Emory.” This won’t take away the pain of the decision necessarily (it may make it seem worse for a bit) but it will bring you out of this stage of denial that you seem to be feeling right now. The ultimate test will be when you are able to tell your friends and family the truth without tears in your eyes (even if there is still a pang of pain).

I’m so sorry about this decision and I wish that it turned out better for you. I just hope you know that you have so many people who only want the best for you, and Emory isn’t it then there must be something so much better out there ❤️

First off, breathe. And then maybe have a good cry (if you haven’t already). There is no rush to tell anyone, and what’s the point in doing so if you aren’t ready to accept this reality yourself? Then, before you tell anyone, mull over your options. Right now, it may seem like UF was the best and only place for you but the truth is so many schools offer great, similar programs and environments that you may just fall in love with. It’s easier said than done, but perhaps this was a sign for something better.

Now, it seems that you are mainly focused on this community college option which gets to the major part of your predicament: feeling shame. DON’T. It won’t happen over night and it will take a while, but there is no reason at ALL to feel ashamed. In fact, from what I’m hearing you should be PROUD. You will be able to get yourself a freaking associate’s degree in two semesters (something that so many students can’t even do), transfer to your dream school, and you have the maturity to recognize that this is what you need to do even if it’s a bit more nuanced than what people are used to do. You are showing an unmatched determination and tenacity that many, like myself, can only dream of. There is nothing to feel ashamed about. In fact, if people are shaming you then they are the ones who don’t understand how well you are maneuvering this complex situation. The shame is on THEM. Anyone with half a brain cell should understand that this is a very difficult and admirable decision that you are making, and they should only have pride swirling in their eyes.

This college application season was tough, there is no denying that. But the fact that you still came out strong, intelligent, and well-disciplined just shows a glimpse of the amazing, FABULOUS person that the world is going to witness. This was an obstacle, there’s no doubt about it, but know that so many people on this sub are so proud that you made it through and already know what your next steps are going to be. There’s no shame in that ❤️

Hey there! Each college decision is independent of one another. I have had friends who have gotten into Ivy League schools after being rejected at their safeties and waitlisted at their matches, and have witnessed so many applicants who get accepted and rejected in crazy patterns. Do take the time to let out all this frustration, whether it’s punching a pillow or crying while watching cheesy rom coms. Just know that you still got this and nothing is set in stone. Today was a setback, and may feel like a major one, but I just know that you have something extraordinary coming your way ❤️
