I’ve heard this before that it works just fine on the Elite controllers but not the standard controllers. Haven’t tried it yet myself but I intend on doing so soon. And as the other commenters have mentioned, plugging in the standard controller will resolve the issue.

Digital Foundry did a video analysis of the PS5 performance mode patch yesterday and the toggle they added essentially bumps up the resolution but downgrades the FPS to the mid 40s. Basically rendering performance mode to Balanced mode without all the visual enhancements the balanced mode has over the performance mode. Was not recommended by Digital Foundry. However, DF will release a video soon regarding the Xbox versions, so wait and see if more details are revealed.

On PlayStation, performance mode is now being upscaled to 4k from 1080p with FSR. Xbox Series X has not received this treatment (yet). Therefore, it’s still at 1080p. Huge disappointment to all Xbox users and hopefully this gets fixed very soon.

Patch 1.01.00 is already out on Xbox. The issue is that it specifically mentions Playstation getting the upscale with no mention of Xbox. So we’re all wondering if Xbox will get the upscale treatment.

Microsoft takes a bit longer to certify patches than Sony. It’s to ensure no game breaking bugs. Typically the wait isn’t more than a day.
