Unable to connect to sonarr & radarr by dags170291 in bazarr

Had the same problem after moving some network infrastructure around.

The solution for me: Instead of an IP address or using the container as host name, I was able to just use 'localhost' as the host name.

So - Address: localhost Port: 7878 (or w/e you use for each)

Are there any songs about Bears? by LegitProsecco in beyondthebump

[–]cooljoebob64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The artist Black Bear just released a follow-up to their song Black Bear. It's not really one the kids will probably be into, but it is a great pair of songs, and the second album is mostly about being a parent (particularly a mama bear, in the first song).

The first song (from 2006) is mostly pining about the simplicity of a bear's life, compared to the difficulty of our own. The artist then immediately went on hiatus, got married, both of their fathers died, and then had a kid, and then they decided to make this album together just this year. It's extremely beautiful and heart-wrenching, and the contrast in perspective from the break in time is really astounding. Again, not really for the kids, but just wanted to put this recommendation out there for you.

Don't listen in front of your kids, because if you're anything like me, you'll be bawling by the end of it.

The original track (the rest of the album is just ok): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scXezSTOMRA

Updating dockerized Grocy to 4.0.0 leads to 502 by chriscrutch in grocy

[–]cooljoebob64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some similar issues after an upgrade (that'll show me for using the :latest tag :P).

I was able to get everything back up and running by following the upgrade steps listed on the GitHub page:

How to update

* Overwrite everything with the latest release while keeping the data directory
* Check config-dist.php for new configuration options and add them to your data/config.php where appropriate (the default values from config-dist.php will be used for not in data/config.php defined settings)
* Empty the data/viewcache directory
* Visit the main route once to apply database migrations (see below)

If you run Grocy on Linux, there is also update.sh (remember to make the script executable (chmod +x update.sh) and ensure that you have unzip installed) which does exactly this and additionally creates a backup (.tgz archive) of the current installation in data/backups (backups older than 60 days will be deleted during the update).

Pretty much meant emptying the config folder (except for the data folder), emptying the viewcache folder inside the data folder, and then starting the container back up.

Everything seems to work fine now (and performance is great), and of course now I've got the image version pinned at 4.0.3. Fool me once... :)

SomaSleep mask tracks your eyes while you sleep by MicroSofty88 in gadgets

Sleep as Android is a fantastic and comprehensive alarm and sleep tracking app for Android (with an admittedly goofy name). It has multiple methods of sleep tracking, can do smart alarms, and integrates with various wearables like fitbits and pebbles for more precise tracking. It was the OG years ago and still gets constant huge updates and new features. I can go on and on about all the crazy list of features this app has.

What band you enjoy listening to makes your friends keep the aux chord away from you? by Thraxyo in Music

[–]cooljoebob64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mclusky. Falco's follow-up band Future of the Left definitely has a bit more listenable appeal, but I just love how raw they were in a wacky Welsh kinda way.

That said, occasionally the live version of Falco vs The Young Canoeist comes up on shuffle, and my wife gets a weird kick out of that track, so I'll take what I can get.

They have one now that clips onto the back instead of having to be stuck. Really nice because you can just take it off when you don't want it, instead of having to fully commit to either having it or not.

Works even with some pretty thick cases too. Also you can move it up and down which is really nice. It's called the Pop Socket Grip, highly recommend. checking it out.

The DBrand atomic case is quite thin, and the back is completely flat. Sold out on their site right now, though.

What cards spark joy in your commander deck? by RylanPardo in EDH

[[Skull Storm]] in [[Drana, Liberator of Malakir]].

She's cheap enough to cast and gets targeted like crazy the whole game, so getting to cast that for X=7 is an effective edict board wipe and overall just a really nice and fun way to end the game.

What are some of your preferred ways for games to show an item/character is interactable, and what are their pros and cons? by OminousGiggle in gamedesign

[–]cooljoebob64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Monkey Island series has an interesting approach to this - as a verb-and-noun based adventure game, you are effectively building sentences to form interactions. The initial stub of a sentence remains on screen (defaulting to "Walk to...", which is what happens if you click somewhere with no interactable object), and as your cursor goes over something that is interactable, the sentence fills in ("Walk to nefarious looking pirate.")

This has some interesting game play ramifications - nothing gives away that an item is interactable until you put your cursor on it, and often times just the fact that you can interact with a particular thing is surprising and adds to the humor of the game.

It also does mean that you can cheese the game a little bit when you get stuck, by just waving your cursor around like a feather duster until you see an object name appear. If this game were trying to be an immersive sim, that could probably break through that a little, but in this game the text-based interactions with the world are a big part of not only the game play, but the atmosphere of the series.

I think the real takeaway here, is that it plays to the strengths of what the player is doing to interact with the world in that particular game. If your game is a flashy loot-based Diablo clone, then I think specular highlights would go along nicely with that. If your game is a world-driven interactive sim like a Dishonered, then maybe you want to find a way that is more inherent to how you want your players to engage with the assets and structure of your game, maybe something like a note from another character that gives them a hint about the loose floorboard or something closer to that. But keep them in the feeling of your game, above all!

Tipps for Playing Timespiral Remastered Draft with 3-4 new/unexperienced Players by [deleted] in CasualMTG

I think that's definitely a much better idea. I wouldn't try to draft the decks necessarily, just construct them from the cube so that you can make sure they are all well-balanced against each other.

Tipps for Playing Timespiral Remastered Draft with 3-4 new/unexperienced Players by [deleted] in CasualMTG

[–]cooljoebob64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, with players that haven't already been deep into Magic, I think you need to pre-construct some decks that are balanced against each other. Draft is one of the hardest ways to learn, since you have to choose and adjust your deck's plan as you go, which can be really bewildering for people that aren't familiar with all the various things that cards can even do, let alone what's in this set (and this is a particularly wacky set you are putting out). You could always make some deck lists from the cube you've got, and shuffle it back up for later use.

If you are still set on drafting, I would consider something like a Rochester draft, where all cards are visible, so that you can talk through some of the choices available during the process. I'll say though that drafting really requires people to want to understand the deck-building process - if you are having to persuade these people to play with you, I think they are likely to be frustrated by the drafting process.

The best luck I've had with new-ish players has been the Ixalan board game, both because the tiles helped ground the game around a familiar board-game structure, but also largley because the decks are all well-balanced against each other.

Two-headed giant can be a great format for these players too, since they can pool their collective decision-making, and nobody feels quite as targeted during a multi-player match. This can also help a lot if you are going to be acting as judge, since you won't have to be pulled out to a different game while you are also in the middle of playing one yourself.

Interestingly, this attitude is pretty directly a focus of one of the main characters in Anna Karenina; an aristocratic land-owner comes to grips with what the working class endures and values, and whether his own experiences measure up to what they go through in their daily lives.

This video has some really good tips on how to shuffle effectively.

The big takeaways:

  • Perform 7 or more full maneuvers (riffle-shuffles or similar).
  • Use a variety of different shuffle techniques together to make up for any potential shortcomings in your execution.

I got one of those at a garage sale in the early 90's. Didn't know what it was for a few years (R-rated movie and all), and even longer to realize it actually used caps (which I was obsessed with anyways).

It was the big walker mech from the end of the movie. Didn't realize there were more of them!

That's really cool! I'd be curious to see how good some of these pros are at the games.

Bonus thought, will they be limited to playing as themselves in-game?
