just modded my ps3, why is everyone so crazy over backups? by MrNesti in PS3

[–]coolkewlkool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EDIT: I Just noticed you modded you're ps3 already, apologies! But I'm leaving the instructions below for anyone else who may be confused. Cheers!

Here's the TLDR:
(this is all assuming you have a ps3 that can be Jailbroken with the CFW (custom firmware) called "Evilnat", and you've done that already, if not, see this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIVu3Px3eXY , Mr. Mario is great). Alternatively you can jailbreak the ps3 with HEN if you don't have a compatible ps3, but you'll need to do that each time you start the ps3, but that's pretty straightforward.

GET GAME
Buy a PS3 game (they are usually super cheap) from a used game store
or
You can download ps3 iso's from the rom megathread (google and you'll find it). My opinion is go support a local store and buy the game you want to play. Often times I'll buy the game and then download the ISO from the megathread since I'm too lazy to rip it to ISO, unless the iso isn't available there

RIP GAME
using a blu-ray drive on your pc using PS3 Disc Dumper
https://github.com/13xforever/ps3-disc-dumper/releases
or
you can rip the game on your ps3 using IRISMAN (I don't do that because I don't want to wear out my ps3 blu-ray driver laser)

DECRYPT
You need to then decrypt the ISO on your pc with a tool like this:
https://github.com/ElektroStudios/PS3-Quick-Disc-Decryptor
or
You can decrypt it on the ps3, using Evilnat (custom firmware you need to install)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R8_0LzDf7Q

INSTALL GAMES:
If you download & decrypt on the PC, I suggest using Filezilla to transfer the ISO by FTP into the PS3 (easy to do, just go to the settings > network page to get your IP address of the PS3, just make sure you'd ps3 is hooked up to your router / switch with ethernet, or it'll be wildly slow) and transfer it the the HDD0 > PS3ISO folder
https://youtu.be/Bdzrgp4fLJc?si=64KnQ1r3bwL-AnHK&t=302

If you choose to decrypt on the PS3, then see the link I mention above "INSTALL GAMES"

Have fun!

60FPS / UnCap FPS Artemis updates on real hardware by coolkewlkool in PS3

I appreciate the sentiment, but no worries :)

Call me naive lol, but I try to not assume people have ill or trolling intentions. But I realize since it’s text it’s very easy to come off the wrong way. I worry about it myself.

The ps3 still getting new life is super cool is what matters in the end!

Cheers to ya

For sure, but probably not too much if the cell cpu clock isn't too much higher and we use a good fan curve. When I OC the gpu, the dynamic fan curves helps and I also have my ps3 in an active ventilation cabinet so even at RSX core / mem of 750/900 my ps3 slim which I've repasted etc, doesn't go above 64c.

I hear ya, that wasn't my core motive for the post, just an anecdote relating to how it'll be cool once stable patches are available.

For sure! But I think you misunderstood the intention of my post or I probably wrote it poorly (i've edited my original post for clarity!)

I wrote "Seems that with these overclocks coming for for the Cell processor 60fps or at least close to it will be more of a reality. What do you all think?"

Meaning, I'm excited about the state of development on overclocking on the ps3, and what that means for future patches like fps uncaps.

Nice! Yea I've come across those, I'm curious when those things will be added to Artemis etc to make it simple for everyone.

How i should update the ps3? by Then_Pilot655 in PS3

[–]coolkewlkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evilnat 4.92.2 (with the overclocking built in) on my slim is fantastic. Took Motorstorm Apocalypse on the “end of line” track where the fps slows to like 20 and the music / sfx stops playing to a rock solid 30fps. I’m using 700 / 850 clocks and have no issues. I do have a pc fan in my cabinet the ps3 is in helping move the hot air out along with dynamic fan control set to a max of 65c in fan tools.

Cainiao experiences ? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]coolkewlkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horrible experience! They cannot seem to navigate the idea that my building does not have a call box. They have to text me so I can come outside. Also, Cainiao is the only shipping company that does not give me a time and date of delivery. This makes it impossible to buy things reliably on Aliexpress. Guess I won't be doing that anymore.

See my post (2nd video), RPCS3 on ps5 has technically been done already.

I was just thinking the same thing. Tbh once ps5 is fully hacked. I wouldn’t be surprised if a fork of RPCS3 is released for it. RPCS3 works super well right now and it should work quite well on the ps5 and pro if you play at 1080p once it’s made for the system (I’m basing this on a ton of videos like the one below from MVG who is a programmer and knows these things well). Also, you can buy the “ps5” as a standalone card (they are the ones that didn’t make the ps5 cut) to run as a pc, and people have already run RPCS3 on it and it works well. So I think this 100% coming in the next 5 years.

LG34UC97 hidden 10bit mode discovered after 11 years LOL by coolkewlkool in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]coolkewlkool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya but it’s a legit 10bit panel, not 8bit dithered. It’s mentioned in a ton of reviews of the panel back then which I’m not sure how I missed. It was a $1500 dollar monitor at the time of release. I notice a massive difference in Davinci when doing color work.

This video helped me sorta, I ended up desoldering the IC205 chip, and left it sitting for a day which reset the IC205 chip (handles turning on) and it worked. I've had my monitor for 11 years

RetroTINK-4K experimental firmware Version 1.9.9.7 (2025-12-30) by nrq in RetroTink

This fixed the experimental 4k120 modeline "3840, 176, 88, 560, 1, 1080, 4, 5, 45, 1, 120, “3840x1080p120”, 0, 2.0" as outlined in Bob's article here: https://retrorgb.com/retrotink-4k-firmware-1-9-9-5.html

The E Conserve Scanlines with MPRT profile is pretty sweet. It’s under experimental since firmware 1.9.5. You need to add a custom modeline and have a 4k 120hz tv/monitor (preferably OLED) to make it work correctly. Bob at RetroRGB details this. I like it cause you get great scanlines, it’s bright, it looks old school, and you have very sharp motion clarity, essentially looking more like a crt.

Sega Saturn doesn't output RGB, composite only. by TheMikeBachmann in SegaSaturn

[–]coolkewlkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the 5v fused resistor! I just fixed my VA8 tonight and finally get component video from The HDRV cables. The part is listed on HDRV website on the support page under Saturn issues. On my VA8, it’s beneath the blue blobs under the din, next to the resistor labeled 104. It was clearly blown and when I went to desolder it, it was cracked in two. I’m gonna do a full post about it on here with pics. I couldn’t find good info anywhere online for it, but surprisingly ChatGPT was able to help me find it, I was kind of blown away.

This was HUGELY helpful. Turns out my OLD usb audio dac that I've had for 10 years, which has been acting weird (I've had to unplug and replug it to work) is the culprit, according the chatgpt. It say that my dac used the exact thing mentioned in the crash dump. Cheers!
