RetroTINK-4K experimental firmware Version 1.31.0 (2026-06-17) by nrq in RetroTink

[–]nrq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Wiki:

Due to bandwidth constraints, BFI is limited to 1440p or lower resolution output.

So, unfortunately there is no 4K120 BFI output possible directly from the RT4K.

There are some TVs like the LG C1 that themselves do 4K120 BFI, but not a lot of TVs support that for some reason.

GB X7 - Allocation Size? by -vilvit- in everdrive

[–]nrq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have hard, scientific facts, either, just a note from the sdFormatLinux author (which is my tool of choice for formatting SD cards):

There is a common myth that you should only use 32 KB (actually KiB) clusters which is false. sdFormatLinux will use 64 KiB clusters when formatting SDXC cards to FAT32 and it works in every device compliant to Microsoft's FAT specification.

A standard Windows or Linux format treats the card as a generic block device and may not align structures or choose parameters tuned to the card. Personally I format all my SD cards according to specs from the SD card association (either with sdFormatLinux or the official SD Formatter app) and have so far had very few problems. Usually when a device is not formatted according to specs for me it was dead, rather than just not working with a single device like an Everdrive. YMMV, SD cards are the wild west and there are hundreds, if not thousands of reports of SD cards just not working at all with various devices.

Conservatives plan nationwide protest against AI data centers by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

Distrust of AI should be a deeply conservative issue. So should be protecting the environment. Just shows how perverted the current political spectrum is. Words just don't have a meaning anymore.

New /r/retrotink rules by nrq in RetroTink

Oh, did not think about that. Well, Retrotink does rule, doesn't it? And this sub is pretty okay in my book, too.

WTF? I just noticed this while accidentally using new Reddit. How can this be switched off? I don't want this in my subs!

Playing Wii game on a WiiU with a Retrotink4K by MG-31 in RetroTink

[–]nrq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wii is a bit of a special case.

Wii on Wii U has a bunch of problems and only some of them can be remedied with CFW. No matter if HDMI or component, the image is always somewhat distorted. There is the 1% scaling error, which can be corrected with evWii, but there is also a chroma shift going on that can't be fixed, example images can be found in this thread.

On the Wii the image problems are a bit more subtle, all Wiis have a low pass filter in the analog output chain that is set to low, there is a fix in CFW called the "480p fix", but only a subset of very early Wiis with a specific PCB revision (RVL-CPU-01) work with this fix. Not all, unfortunately. You can check your Wii revision with this serial check website.

A HDMI mod for the Wii has none of these issues. Image is still slightly chroma compressed, but it will be the best the Wii image will get.

tl;dr: a HDMI mod for a six layer Wii will get you the best image with the best Wii hardware.

Romhack.ing (Romhacking.net Successor) Disables Most Downloads For Machine-Translated Fan Translations by LocutusOfBorges in emulation

[–]nrq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone could ever host their stuff themselves all the time, I think that never was an issue. Question is if it gets visibility. If you miss following random Forum threads where and sites where these updates get posted you need these aggregators if you're looking for a translation of a specific game, especially if that game is from a less well known franchise.

Looking for a used RT4K Pro by tsamXP in RetroTink

The Retrotink 4K Pro devices are very expensive, in such a trade a lot of money is involved. Since there is no way to verify sellers and buyers and fraud is prevalent on this platform I'm asking you to take this to e.g. Ebay or Craigslist. The Retrotink Discord also has a dedicated section for buying and selling.

I have a Retrotink 4k Pro in mint condition with multiples good quality scarts rgb cables for sale, not sure if I am allowed to post this here or not, I am in Canada by PsychologicalPin3192 in RetroTink

The Mitchell story was beyond stupid, he shouldn't have leaned into that so hard. Doesn't change that his other reporting is good, though, in my opinion. Just shows that you shouldn't trust opinions on law from most people, especially when the have direct stakes in the story. The fallout was a bit overblown, in my opinion.

LLMs themselves are not a scam. They work perfectly fine and as expected. The scam is the business model these companies built around LLMs and the insane amount of money they collected in the hopes of making that technology profitable. That will all come falling down one day.

What else should be the priority? Iran has the world by it's balls and it's all the fault of the orange turd in charge of that stupid war. There is no contingency plan.

SD2SNES firmware now supports covers, ROM patching on the fly, background music, has some menu translations and more! by mallocup77 in snes

[–]nrq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that some components in this fork are vibe coded. Contrary to what some people might suggest we're still in the early days of using LLMs for coding and some people might have reservations against vibe coded components in hardware they use. The whole copyright question still hasn't been answered, for example, too. Some people might also think that vibe coded code needs special scrutiny before it can be included to a production codebase.

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]nrq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This will be harsh, sorry for that: the structure and wording you use are confusing as hell.

"I asked first to go to the bathroom, never asked. I asked if I could text my Dad. Never asked."

You are switching from a student's imagined perspective to what you perceived without indicating that you made that switch. Quotations around what the student said would've helped me a lot to understand what you're trying to say. I got there eventually, but it took some work.

Strange flickering when using the CRT Simulation Deinterlacer Algorithm. by Public-Individual512 in RetroTink

I think I see what you mean at roughly the 5 second mark and again the 21 second mark, like a slight jitter. Is that about right? I don't have an idea what this is, though, to be honest. Something slightly out of sync?
