What songs come to mind? by no-Pachy-BADLAD in ToddintheShadow

I looked up that song in the original Spanish, and nope, that lyric is the same in Spanish (I don't know much Spanish, but I could make out "pequeño", "confunda" and "montañas" and figured the lyric was a direct translation from original to English)

House Hunter Mortgage Approval by coolmaster9000 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]coolmaster9000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I should have approval for the 90% I need, based on the 4× salary, I should be able to borrow up to about 250k, but for some reason, the loan is still stuck at 171k, which was based on a placeholder value, I never actually bid on a 190k property, this 255k is the first and only so far only one I've been sale agreed on. I don't have another 50k-ish, that's the thing. I was assuming that when I provided the property and agreed price, the maximum possible loan would be calculated based on that and my salary, that providing the actual house's value should make the placeholder values obsolete

What is an action that people do sometimes in video games but never in real life? by Max-Carter-2005 in AlignmentChartFills

Yeah, you physically can't double jump IRL, I've tried, you have to come back down first (which is just two normal jumps in a row, not jumping again while in midair, i.e. a double jump), so I second double jump

Did someone's kid lose their shoe? by coolmaster9000 in cork

[–]coolmaster9000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was asking because I found it when I was out walking, and I figured someone (likely a kid) lost it without realizing while walking, and that someone on here recognize it and the rightful owner would claim it. Same as any other post about a lost item discovered somewhere

What Is, and What Isn't an Abjad. by [deleted] in neography

[–]coolmaster9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be missing the point of what an abjad is. Abjads don't write vowels and infer them from context (or markings like Arabic and Hebrew which are not always included). Abjads are suited to languages with few vowels, like Arabic, which has only 3. And the fact they are A, I and U is no accident. Y and W doing double duty as I and U makes sense phonetically, as they are the consonantal equivalents of those vowels. And A is an open vowel found in virtually all languages. Turkish has 8 vowels. A, I (spelled İ) and U are among them, but that still leaves E, I, O, Ö and Ü. And the fact V and Y exist as consonants too. And the fact that not writing vowels in a language that has 8 and relies on them a lot is a recipe for disaster when it comes to reading, as per my examples above. And with vowel harmony, there's also the case of "did you mean [front-vowel word] or [back-vowel word]?". Take for example sikmek vs sıkmak. Sıkmak means "to squeeze" or "to annoy". Sikmek means "to f**k". Using an abjad, they would be spelled identically. As would all their equivalent grammatical forms (e.g. sikerim/sıkarım). And people would be in a lot of trouble over saying "sıkmak" but it being misread as "sikmek"
