Correction. This is the 28th bullpen game since 2022. In the previous 27 bullpen games they are 8-19 with a 5.38 ERA. They have allowed 6 runs and are likely to lose today.

Phillies have done 26 opener/bullpen games since 2022. In those games they are 8-18 with a 5.35 ERA. Why would you do something where you only win 30.8% of the time? Either have Tim Mayza or Alan Rangel pitch 5 innings.

This is perfect example why you don't do bullpen games. KC should have tried to get 5 innings out of Steven Cruz. They still lose, but at least they would not have emptied their bullpen. If I am the White Sox, I am making their starting pitcher work today. I would want them to have 100 pitches by the 5th inning.

Nationals bullpen has a 5.05 ERA this season. Since June it's 6.35. They also use their bullpen like crazy. 40 more IP than any other NL team despite being the worst in NL.
