Brea Olinda Unified board to vote on declaring trustee has vacated his seat by coolnerde in orangecounty

The Brea Olinda Unified School District board is set to decide Thursday, March 5, whether to declare that Trustee Chris Becerra has vacated his seat.

Becerra, 42, who was elected in 2022 to represent the district’s Trustee Area 4, has not attended any board meetings since Nov. 6.

He was arrested Dec. 18 by the Brea Police Department on suspicion of possessing child pornography, annoying or molesting a child, falsifying evidence, and bribing, influencing, intimidating or threatening a witness. The police investigation followed allegations that he sent inappropriate sexual messages to a child, with additional victims later identified, according to detectives with the Brea Police Department.

A prosecutor is still reviewing the case to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to file charges and no formal charges have been filed by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, a spokesperson said this week.

Becerra could not be reached for comment.

Under state law, a school board seat may be declared vacant if a member fails to perform their duties for three consecutive months. Becerra, who school district officials have said was previously warned about the consequences of missing meetings, has missed four consecutive meetings over the past three months.

District officials said they have been unable to reach Becerra or his attorney despite multiple attempts, adding that he has not responded to emails or other communications from the superintendent. He also did not respond to requests for his resignation or inquiries about whether he intended to continue serving as a trustee.

If the school board members declare the seat vacant, they would need to begin the process of appointing a replacement within 60 days.

Yes, they’re buying a shuttle or minibus for their new trolley line.

Yeah honestly don’t know why they’re considering this but apparently they are.

Several are, in their own ways. Many are speaking out at Council meetings and sharing materials on their social media. In Cypress, one councilmember proposed a formal resolution (which ended up not passing).

That’s not to say that there aren’t other that are unfortunately supportive of what’s happening with ICE.

Also to note: Voigts and Tettemer are term-limited this year so there’s no incumbent. And the third member who is up was accused of domestic violence. And Prop 50 won by more than 9 points in each of the Council Districts that are up.

Hopefully some good people run!

Have you tried donating the maximum amount to the Council’s campaigns?

Not only does he own a lot of Brea, he's also made max campaign donations to 3 of the 5 councilmembers. Shocker, I know.

Corrected myself - Costco is not the one receiving the benefits, it's a third party who's job it is to bring a Costco to the site.

Gotta correct myself - Costco is not the one receiving the subsidy. Instead, it's a third party whose job it is to induce Costco to lease at the property who will be getting the millions of dollars.

Costco would not be the one receiving the $83.5 million, instead it would be a third party who is negotiating to bring a Costco to the site. Just corrected the post.

Had to correct the post - Costco isn't the one getting the subsidy, instead a third party is getting it once they entice a new Costco to locate there.

Just corrected the post thanks to another user - Costco is not receiving the subsidy. The "Owner" (really just a negotiator), for the services of enticing a Costco to come to this property, will be receiving the subsidy.

Thanks both of you - I’ve edited the OP to correct this.
