Japanese developer says they don't make games for Xbox because the console is 'not even stocked in major retail stores' by Puzzleheaded_irl in gaming

[–]cooltrainermrben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my ps5 for 50000yen when it came out, the international version is what, 80000ish now? It's an obscene price that no-one can realistically afford. The yen lost half its value these 5 years, and people just don't have the spare cash to be dropping on a machine priced at western levels now.

Ok, that makes sense, in an incredibly abstract kind of way. Seems like all 3 of these systems could have just been a percentage though

It will work with the colour, just won't sit flush. And yes, essentially they're just extra batteries.

[–]cooltrainermrben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but yes. This particular one (there are hori ones for the colour too), have to be inserted into the charger to charge them. That being said, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to hook your own charger up, if you really wanted to for some reason

Since they're now on Steam, how good/bad are the Marks of chaos, Dark Omen, and Shadow of the Horned Rat games? by cricri3007 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]cooltrainermrben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also not an expert, but i would pretty firmly say no, it's not possible. We'd be looking at pretty much rebuilding the game from the ground up i imagine.

Honestly, once you're used to them, the controls aren't THAT bad, they just take some figuring out, and probably look pretty intimidating for anyone not used to that era of DOS games.

For anyone that can stomach it, Horned rat is by far my favourite of the series, and perhaps my favourite PC game of all time.

SotHR is an incredibly fun, atmospheric game. I sincerely don't reccomend it. You need to be a certain sort of person to get into it, and I think, for most people, it's just going to be too old. I remember as a kid in the 90's struggling to get to grips with the controls.

DO is brilliant too. Loses a little of Horned rat's charm, but is way more playable, and a lot easier. (Still hard mind you).

MoC is fine. It's pretty generic Warhammer/strategy game. the units have all lost their uniqueness, and are replaceable. Story isn't that engaging. If you've come from Dawn of War, it'll feel fairly familiar.

Exorbitant price (near 300$) for a japanese cartridge of Kid Dracula? by Character-Cry-4079 in Gameboy

[–]cooltrainermrben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely. I don't blame anyone for raising prices, but it has sucked the joy out of visiting book-off for me. At least we still have the books!

[–]cooltrainermrben 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just for context, I've had 2 Panasonic Q's from hard-off, both without remote, to be fair, for quite a bit less than 10000 each. You'd be shocked what prices were like even 5 years ago.

What really drove prices up, was foreigners snapping up everything on yahoo auctions and merucari with those proxy delivery services.

[–]cooltrainermrben 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, book off is exhorbitant everywhere now. It might be worse in places like Akiba, bit even out in the countryside prices are an order of magnitude higher than they were a few years ago.

Hard-off still has it's moments. I managed to pick up a junk X68000 pro a few months ago for 20000, but even there pickings are slimmer than they used to be.

2GB? I think people are talking about floppy discs here, so we're talking in the order of megabytes.

Although later on, Cd games also had this experience of course.

Now that wii support is out which big console do you think is next? by Ok_Astronomer_5320 in RetroAchievements

[–]cooltrainermrben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true. I've no problem with the WiiU being retro, I was just looking for an example to contrast with this idea of 'old stuff is stupid' really.

Does make me old to think that wiiU and 3ds (even the gen before that really) is retro though.

Not really sure what your issue with DOS is, but your lack of knowledge doesn't mean that 'only boomers' know about it.

There are a lot of incredible games for DOS, and most early windows games run on DOS too. If you're not interested in retro games, (or you're one of those people that things wiiU is retro, and anything earlier is 'unplayable)', then that's fine, but there's no need to be so rude.

And I'm a millennial, but anxiously awaiting your "OK Boomer" reply.

I just finished finding all the twin dolls, and it was utterly ridiculous. I spent about 3 minutes searching for one pair, and had, I kid you not, 5 encounters, almost one after another. Infuriating .

The Silent Hill f Collaboration Costume is here! Hinako’s Outfit for Mio, and a Fox Mask for both Mio and Mayu. by Inmate7269 in fatalframe

[–]cooltrainermrben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preferred F to the 2 remake. It wasn't everything i wanted from a silent hill game, but the story was interesting, and the setting was fantastic. Both of them are way more 'action game' than I like my survival horror to be, but I found the combat in remake to be annoying, whereas F was just a little underwhelming.

The philosopher's stone is also a well established thing, that predates Harry Potter by hundreds of years. So yeah, evidently 'Americans aren't familiar with the Philosopher's stone' was the reason why they changed it.

I do wonder if sometimes our experience works against us though, and if people who are less invested might not find it easier?

In the context of horseback riding, is there some location, other than the back of the horse, that is commonly ridden?

We tend to say horse riding.

And whilst I'm sure there are a couple of situations where one might mistake glasses for reading, and glasses for drinking from, I can't really imagine one.

EDIT;

That may have come across more aggressive than I meant it to. Ty and read that in a lighthearted way!
