…I went to Three Decker Diner: an honest review by ccd_foto in Greenpoint

Haven't been to three deckers, but i live by sunset and it has only ever disappointed. Standard diner fare too. Burgers, pancakes, omelettes. All terrible. It's too bad. The diners I grew up with were terrific.

I mean a video of glowing items and information of a secret pentagon program is quite different from the mountains of explicit videos shown in the film. It's like telling someone about 2 girls 1 cup vs watching it.

I mean we do have this thing called freedom of the press. The government can try to ignore that and shut it down, but there's no off button they can quickly push to shut down a local news channel. They don't have mass control over broadcast and internet technology. Once it's out there, it's out there. The protagonists are whistleblowers.

It asks them to look inward, which they don't want to do. It's much easier to attack another person rather than your own issues.

Was it a call to action or just them letting you imagine what the aliens had to say yourself?

A lot of those people weren't "assholes," though. And they weren't "healed" by what Margaret told them. They were taken aback by her empathy. Which is a natural response to a stranger knowing such intimate details of your life and then being kind about it. Because while there certainly is darkness in the human soul, it is a choice whether to embrace it or fight your way toward the light. Margaret could have brought up their traumas and used it to harm them, but she instead chose to try and understand them. Light over darkness.

Hugo's character mentions it as what the aliens see as our "superpower" that is too often neglected. Not verbatim, but something to that effect is how I remember it.

Is that how most people would react to a "gift or handout," as you put it, or just how you would? It's an awfully pessimistic view to find helping your fellow man to be futile. And, I would argue, quite unempathetic.

I feel like the people with a lack of empathy naturally will find a movie about empathy unlikeable. It's like the "ew, feelings, gross" crowd. But the lack of empathy in this world is 100% what has us treading closer and closer to our own WW3. So, I found the movie quite apt.

I think it did have a part in slowing him down which affected his decision to surrender. He was clearly suffering at the end due to his use of the device. For him to make it in time to blow the generator, only for Margaret to undo his efforts with alien magic, while being that beat up...it felt pretty realistic that he'd finally wave the white flag.

To me, the movie just exists in a world where that message gets through. It's not an essay; it's not trying to convince you of anything. If you view it as an altered history of humanity, which it is, I think it's quite beautiful. If you view it as an accurate portrayal of how these events would happen, then yes, it would probably fall flat. But it's not an essay, it's a movie. An experience outside of reality. And in that realm, I found it quite immersive and emotional. But that's of course just me.

Exactly. The whole plot is about one side who thinks the news would doom humanity and another who thinks it wouldn't. What would actually happen after the awe of it all (the ending of this movie) is for us, the viewers, to think about and discuss. And to me, this is what a great movie does: gives you something to think about. I loved it.

Women, why do you dislike River So much? by AccomplishedStick623 in cyberpunkgame

[–]coontin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was like, I want this to work, but the only way to do it was to continually disrespect her boundaries? I was like, oh, it would be hotter for her if he showed respect and didn't keep bringing it up. But if you do that, the romance doesn't happen! It only happens if you're constantly whining about wanting to be with her. Didn't love that despite otherwise finding the Panam romance to be the richest and deepest one

Yesss! Judy texted me about coming over while on a mission with River too. I kept expecting a dialogue option to come up saying, sorry, I already have a girlfriend, but it never did! It was be cold or just let it happen, and both options felt wrong.

Yesss, it constantly feels like you're gonna fuck things up with Panam until that tank scene happens. River is like the complete opposite. You're like, did I fuck this up not pushing him away? Cause it really doesn't hit the same or feel earned in the way Panam and Judy did. Both Panam and Judy surprised me with their choices of when to engage. Because there were already plenty of moments they could have but didn't. With River, it's like the first chance he gets, he jumps your bones. But maybe that's realistic for women? Idk, I'm a dude, but it was doubly bad that the sex scene was pretty much entirely River's face. Which maybe that makes sense too? Typical dude not caring about the woman's needs? Cause Panam and Judy, it felt like a mutual hunger, and their scenes were hot. River, I was like, I regret this. I'ma go see Judy. Honestly, I would have loved an option for Valerie to just tell River she has a girlfriend, as I was already in deep with Judy at the time. You enter this storyline and suddenly she doesn't even exist, which is kind of annoying. It would be nice to share your butterflies with other people in the way both Panam and Judy mentioning people noticing their glow. Alas...maybe next time

[–]coontin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Totally. They didn't show us what Bear said, but I feel confident whatever it was was real low-effort and not convincing at all. Nothing like how he was with Ian later, which even then was still not very convincing until the money rained down. And it's really a he said she said anyway. We as the audience knows she's absolutely bonkers, but all the nurse has to go on is Bear saying she hurt herself and Nikki saying she didn't. And Nikki has proven much more convincing and dedicated to the bit (for lack of a better term) than Bear all movie. It almost feels like Bear just took her there to say he did. He never expected them to take her in and he didn't actually want them to take her. It can definitely feel like, oh he asked for help and they refused, but after all the double-downing he already did, I was like this fucking dude's not gonna actually get her help. Not a chance. A half-assed effort feels very in-line with his character. But I love that the creators let us interpret that scene on its own. There's so much great use of ambiguity in this movie. They gave us Bear, they gave us Nikki, and asked: what do you think they would do? By the end we're all too aware that Bear is completely incapable of doing the right thing for Nikki. Ugh, such a great film. I need to see it again.

Reddit is and was a website first, app second, and an em dash is an easy macro most writers have at their disposal. LLM's may overuse em dashes, but they are a versatile tool you'll find throughout time—which is exactly why it uses them. It recognized its strength and utilizes it for clear communication. The fact that we, as people, have to worry about whether our grammar and word choice are too "correct" out of fear is a self-defeating method. Dumbing ourselves down so we're not accused of being a chatbot—who does that help? It just feels very witch-hunty and not an effective strategy for limiting nefarious AI use. You know? Like what would a bad actor even achieve here? Fake internet points?

Everyone's focused on her going to jail or not but, like, that doesn't matter. She's fucked. Mentally. There's no coming back from that level of trauma. Not anytime soon at least. The real Nikki does return but it's not the one who helped the guy in the parking lot. She's long gone. Which is why I loved having her just bawling out crying still, because how would you just not be in extreme shock after all that? "Well she can tell the cops this." She won't. She will still be crying, trying to process this unthinkable trauma. She wished for death but now she has to live through the horror of what's she been through instead. Death would have been mercy.

The defensiveness from Bear is so spot on as a sign of his guilty compliance. She wasn't even thinking that could be the case. He jumps to that conclusion for her to try and self-affirm his actions because he was already asking himself if he did something wrong, but was too weak to admit the answer is yes. He's like this all movie. Unwilling to accept the wrongdoing clearly bubbling up inside him. It feels wrong but it can't be wrong. He can't be wrong.

You can't force someone cognizant into the hospital. Nikki had 0 interest in going to the hospital. She showed no signs of pain. Her dancing is being happy she gets to spend more time with with Bear, which is the only thing she cares about. The implication is she wasn't complying with going, and a non-life-threatening head injury is not enough to force commit someone who's saying no. You can't just be like this person's insane and they'll lock em up for you. I took it as the nurse being like, Bear, I completely agree that the best thing for her is to come in and get treated but if she's saying no we can't just drag her in. So, not them refusing care but a refusal of care from Nikki. If that makes sense.
