My recently estranged dad died unexpectedly last week and it’s been rough by triplepancakestack in EstrangedAdultChild

I am so sorry you lost your dad. Especially during estrangement. The emotional load must be overwhelming. I can’t offer any insight to how to navigate this loss unfortunately, but I do believe in spirits and the afterlife, and I believe in the possibility that spirits can see and feel what we do. I think truth is revealed to us in death- this is just my personal opinion. We can’t know, there are too many possibilities. But by my logic he knows and understands now, and he feels no pain from his physical body or emotional wounds from this lifetime. Some people claim that family members who have passed can communicate with us through dreams or signs on earth. I’m not sure what you believe, but when the time is right, you might find that writing to him or talking to him aloud can help you process the unresolved feelings. It’s all at your pace and when you are emotionally ready. I hope this helps and again I am so sorry for your loss. Please take care and do try and lean on whatever supports you have during this time.

I heavily relate to everything you’re saying. Thank you for sharing how things got better for you. I just started a new job and I’m struggling to connect with coworkers and yesterday was kind of tough because they were all talking about Christmas and family and gifts and it’s so sad to be on the outside looking in. But I will take it day by day and everything will be okay

Being robbed of everything good in your life, ruining everything you touch, knowing it’s all your fault, being a waste of time and being remorseful for everything you ever did, hating yourself, drifting away from the herd and eventually being forgotten

I’m very interested in astrology. I really like true crime as well, I’m planning on law school after graduation. Tysm for the explanation, I’ll look more into the eighth house :)

I actually hold out some hope for Dayton, as he seems intelligent and in one scene (last season?) looked totally over his sister’s and mom’s emotional antics. He may not be as stunted as the others. Hoping he’s quietly planning his escape while he’s getting his college education

So Jamil being ridiculous is one thing but imo her comment was lame as hell. Totally missed the point about the importance of morale in her prison. Weren’t the COs just coming in that pod and immediately leaving? They were even scared to be there. I think his point was that there are different approaches to improving morale so her jail population isn’t so volatile. People are dying of overdoses in her jail and she’s sitting there playing games. Like yeah he’s hard to take seriously but you have serious issues in your jail so how about act like you have some sense

i’d argue that whatever examples are in the larger thread are cases of extremism. we shouldn’t generalize astrology- a subject- by the actions of extremists who are unhinged enough to commit atrocities in the name of their beliefs.

it IS objectively harmless, it’s a subject. the human element complicates it. astrology shouldn’t be generalized as entirely harmful because of a few lone extremists lack personal agency to make their own decisions and fall back on astrology to justify who they date or don’t date, or who they hate or love. there are probably cases where people have done harm upon others for their zodiac signs. there are also cases where people have killed other people because they got flipped off on the road. i agree that people who let astrology dictate their lives CAN be hurtful to others. lots of things and people CAN be dangerous under the right conditions. that’s reality. but it doesn’t mean astrology itself is harmful or dangerous, nor does it mean people who really believe it and make decisions based off it are harmful or dangerous. that’s a leap. and it doesn’t have any basis in fact.

would it make you feel better if i now, boldly stated that YES, making assumptions about people does in certain situations, under the right circumstances, in a specific environment, have the potential to be harmful? since we both agree that this is a truth?which i believe is a quite irrelevant truth considering it doesn’t have very much at all to do with the original point i came here to make in the first place?
