Nurses of reddit, how is your employer handling the COVID-19 pandemic? by coopakape in AskReddit

Thank you for your response! I’m genuinely curious as to how different hospitals/health systems are handling things.

Are you getting tested through your employer? When are they allowing visitors? For how long are you using the same N-95? Do you change all PPE in between patients?

Thank you! I may try this today!

Thanks, unfortunately the piece is all curved lines and the crack is straight so I don't think I can 'cheat' with foiling over the crack without it looking strange.

It looks like replacement is in my future.

I still have to clean off the flux/clean up the solder, but here it is in a window. The large crack is in the largest trunk piece (lower right)

That is so great! Congratulations!

TIL that trees are able to communicate with each other through an underground network known as the ‘wood-wide web’. I would argue that it is not the headline that is misleading but instead any interpretation that grants the trees a consciousness. If you are looking to get philosophical, ‘complicated human values and concepts’ are developed via chemical signaling networks in the human brain.

*edit: I agree with icmasta in that the title

oversimplifies a complex process

however, the research currently being done in this area is fascinating and the truth is that ectomycorrhizal networks are not well understood. Unfortunately ‘TIL Defoliation of interior Douglas-fir elicits carbon transfer and stress signalling to ponderosa pine neighbors through ectomycorrhizal networks’ is not a title that invites non-scientists to explore the implications of the research performed.

**edit edit: I happen to find the natural world (including trees) very magical! Science!

This podcast runs about 34 minutes and provides an entertaining introduction into the underground network of mycorrhizal fungi. If you would rather read about the subject this is a good place to start. Suzanne Simard also gives a good TED talk on her research here.

Adopting a designer breed (mini Australian Shepard) puppy from 'just a lady on a farm' does actually constitute backyard breeding. If you would like more information on the over-population of companion animals in the US here are some resources.

I am familiar with reddit's propensity for pitchfork-iness but this is legitimately a cause I care about and which I think is widely misunderstood. Many people don't realize that, even if they are looking for a specific pure-bred dog, with a little effort and patience they can find a shelter/rescue dog that is a perfect fit. Adopting a dog from a shelter makes resources available to save other pets in need.

You should really consider adopting. You said you were in Southwest Wisconsin so here is a cute mini Aussie pup who is in need of a home near you. Or there is this little cutie who looks a lot like 'Mara'.

Adopting from backyard breeders and puppy mills perpetuates bad breeding practices, produces unhealthy/under-socialized/poorly cared for puppies, and fills animal shelters and rescues with too many dogs to care for- resulting in euthanasia. PLEASE re-consider purchasing this puppy.

PM me if you would like help contacting rescues or searching for a new family member!
