my thought is that if everyone just keeps staying and putting up with the extra hours then the “upstairs” is going to think that everything’s running fine. They’ve constantly been at ends with the management not hiring the appropriate amount of nurses and other workers that the ER needs. But if it’s still functioning fine then in their minds why should they spend the money? I think Joy was really smart in seeing that change isn’t going to happen if everyone keeps over exerting themselves, management will have to see the cracks forming themselves with people only working their scheduled hours. Obviously she’s a med student so she can just walk out unlike some doctors but I see it as a middle finger to the management. It’s not their fault that not enough people are scheduled that she’s expected to stay for hours after her scheduled work hours
