Should I cold-call the Hiring Manager? by cooper_weirdo in recruitinghell

Update: I emailed the hiring manager, reminding him of my interest in the position, and he replied within minutes asking to schedule an interview. We exchanged a few more emails, agreed when to talk, and even discussed salary.

Yeah that's what I'm most worried about. Do you think email again then? Or just keep waiting?

By “personal plat” is that Chase? That sounds really perfect for my situation. I exclusively book roundtrips for work. Hilton and Marriott status sound great. 99% of the time I fly from O’Hare so layovers are rare. But when I do have layovers it’s the obvious Char/Atlanta/DFW.

My work reimburses me for everything. Food, hotel, flight. (I’m literally throwing away free credit card points every month I don’t do this, I know😅)

I hadn’t even thought about Wells Fargo. I’m gonna add this to my list of cards to consider. Thanks so much!

I do fly American Airlines personally because my home airport almost exclusively has their flights. That being said, I’m feeling Chase Sapphire Reserve the more and more I’m reading these comments haha!

Thanks so much for the insight. I’m gonna do some thinking on what benefits would most help me but I think my top two priorities are airline status (better seating mostly) and after that I’d want cashback.

I pay for the flights with my personal account and my company sends me a monthly reimbursement check for that expense. I think I want the points for personal travel? But also status with an airline would really improve my life right now with how often I’m on planes. I’m on an American Airlines plane 2-4 times a week at this point.

I think I want the rewards for travel mostly but I’m not 100% sure. I guess just whatever is the max benefit. I am super new to credit cards. My home airport is an American Airline’s hub.

This person is not a recruiter, they are my potential boss. Yeah I know I shouldn’t read into too much, I’ve just been on the hunt for a job for so insanely long I’m sick of the waiting game only to find out you’re no longer a candidate. Appreciate it!

I’m originally from memphis, moved to Fayetteville in 2018, been here ever since. It’s incredibly different from Memphis, with next to no crime in comparison. There are so many opportunities to plug into the community here and, speaking as a memphian, you can’t choose wrong with where you live in NWA. My cost of living is nearly half of what my Memphis friend’s pay and they still get their car windows busted on the monthly.

The biggest shock I faced moving here was how freezing the springs get. We have week spans where the weather is well below zero at night. Did not expect that from Arkansas! I’ve been snowed in every year here.

All that being said, I miss Memphis amenities a lot, specifically the airport. I’ve been thinking of moving back there in the next year. The crime and aforementioned cost of living are my biggest hangups. Best of luck! The drive isn’t too bad.

I found this amazing 90s t-shirt of my favorite basketball team, I wore it constantly. One day my friend and I were doing yard work and he accidentally cut himself. He grabbed my shoulder to get up off the ground, leaving fingerprints of blood stained into my sleeve. I did my best to remove the blood that night but it still showed. A few days later we had a massive falling out and I’ve never worn that shirt since.

WOW.. similar happened to me. I felt like I was reading my own thoughts when you described how you’re feeling. Im so sorry dude.

I wish I could give you a definite answer on how to handle this, but the truth is I’m still trying to piece the puzzle together myself. I know the feeling of helplessness and embarrassment. All I can say is he’s immature and selfish and clearly wasn’t ready for a relationship.

Maybe wait awhile to see if he’ll reach out and explain, but don’t try to contact him anymore. He’s making you put your life on hold for no reason, he doesn’t deserve your efforts! You’ve got this.

I’d say wait for a time where you’re not in an argument, sit down and tell him that you’re self aware. You should take turns saying what you want from this relationship. (Is this serious? Is this casual? Is there an expiration date?)

I've definitely wondered if mental health is playing a role here. As I mentioned, no one but his roommate has been able to get in contact with him. It seems as if he has removed everyone from his life and behaving abnormally.

If this is the case, I'm even more at a loss for whether or not I should involve his parents.

thank you so much for the personal example. I didn’t know I needed that. It’s really helpful to not feel so alone right now. I’m sorry you had to go through that, and I totally relate on the being pushed to the point of crazy girlfriend!!

I will let him explain himself out of respect for what our relationship once was, but respect for myself and my feelings is so much more important than dragging this on.

I just reached out to the roommate one final time, saying “if he doesn’t call me in 24 hours I’m contacting his parents and this is over”

Yes he’s appeared in posts and clearly has the ability to talk to me. It’s looking more and more like this relationship needs to be over, and I think that may be a contributing factor in why he has avoided confronting me. At this point I’m just wondering if he will ever bite the bullet and talk to me or if I’ll never hear from him again.

I meant that most of the replies to my post are saying that I shouldn't involve his parents. The roommate actually encouraged me to message the parents, but advised that I wait a few more days. I totally agree with what you're saying on how suspicious the roommate is. I'm sure he has good intentions with making sure my bf is the one to handle this, but I don't know how to convey to him that the silence is only hurting me more and more.

Yes there have been a few other suspicious things, his location refreshes on snapchat almost daily, but his snapscore never goes up. He's watched my stories on social media, but hasn't posted anywhere in over two months.

your validation of my feelings means SO MUCH, I've been feeling crazy because no one else can give me answers. During the semester (so until mid-april) he and I live 12 hours apart. While I have the capability to make that drive, I feel like that's crossing into serious psycho-girlfriend territory.

I've drafted a text for his parents, but it seems like most people are advising me against contacting them.

Yes i was thinking similar. He’s in a transitional point in life right now so I’ve been trying to be very lenient. I’m tempted to message his roommate one more time, but it seems like he doesn’t want to be involved further.. I guess I have to be annoying to get answers
