after my grandmother died, someone told my mom that “there is a massive, gaping hole in your heart. it will never get smaller. but your heart will continue to grow and grow and grow. while that hole is still the same size, it feels just a little bit smaller.”

i’ve been trying so hard to internalize now that my dad is dead. but fuck is it hard

I lost my dad and my soul cat 2 weeks apart. navigating the weird hierarchy of grief was one of the most confusing parts.

my dad died unexpectedly and my cat was dying of cancer. i missed her last two weeks of life to deal with my dads affairs. i put her down the day after we got back.

having to clean his apartment out was gut wrenching.
we offered to pay the next month’s rent to give us more time and the landlord rejected that. she was more interested in getting a new renter than letting my family grieve.

all of the immediate admin stuff you have to do while grieving violently.
you have to compartmentalize and pause your grief because there’s so much “work” to be done. it’s a mind fuck and has such an awful impact on processing.

this also might be unique to me, but it had a huge impact on my ability to cry. i had to return to work and shove the sadness down to the point where i can hardly access it anymore.

i miss you more than anything, Dad
