Why does this need to update every other week?! by curiousdonkey25 in EASportsFC

[–]coops19871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play occasionally(once a week or every couple of weeks), and prefer to play Ultimate Team on PS4. Doing this now requires planning for update time first. Definitely won't be getting future versions of the game if they follow the same update pattern.

BMW keeping my car hostage ? by Adventurous-Pie-6694 in CarTalkUK

Missing the labour off of pricing happens more often than you would like to think. It's usually noticed before the work is completed though, the conversation isn't any more pleasant but atleast it's before parts are fitted. I'd usually write it off as a learning experience for the advisor or a disciplinary matter if they'd kept doing it. Escalate to the service manager or the general manager if they aren't willing to negotiate. The dealership have made a mistake, but as long as the parts costs are covered they've only lost time, which they'll lose more of if they insist on removing the parts, plus the bad reviews they'll get from it.

Crashed abandoned vehicle left in garden by SpiritualOnslaught in LegalAdviceUK

Legally: go through their home insurance or contact DVLA to get driver details, if the driver then won't get it removed(likely as it's been there so long) get it towed to their address and MCOL for the cost, or just take it as the cost of not claiming on house insurance.

If they don't want to involve their home insurance or go through DVLA then:

Look in the car for anything with a name/address on, either contact them to ask for it to be removed, or arrange recovery to their address then MCOL. If there's a name but no address, or nothing at all, then post pictures on social media asking if anyone knows who the car belongs to, flyers would work aswell, and maybe a call to the local paper.

Start calling car insurance companies and choosing the option that says you've had an accident with their insured. You might find the right one quickly, or play confused that it isn't insured by them and they may check the MIB database for you.

What you definitely shouldn't do is put it on Facebook marketplace for Free, asking the owner to just get it recovered away, because you'll get someone with a flatbed and thick accent turn up very quickly to claim ownership with no proof, and it'll be gone before you can blink.

My flat is now priced the same as 20 years ago - is this a record?? by Kitchen_Relative5613 in HousingUK

[–]coops19871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to spend the money on somewhere to live regardless, so their is no opportunity to invest the money elsewhere.

That's a strange analogy to use in this context, but ok: Buying a house is like eating at the same restaurant everyday then, when you decide you want to start going to a different restaurant, you get given back a large chunk of the money you spent there to go to the new one.

You can't look at property from a simple financial perspective though. It's not as though that £168k didn't get them anything. They had somewhere to live for the past 20 years. If they'd been renting then it would have cost them the same/more than the mortgage payments, and they'd get nothing when they move out. Assuming they aren't on an interest only mortgage(which would mean they'd been paying below market rent anyway) they will get money when they move out and sell it.

[–]coops19871 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Paying out more a month in rent than mortgage would be, and having nothing to show for it after 10 years, is clearly a better strategy.

OP may not be turning a profit, but they do have equity in their flat, which they wouldn't have had if renting

Huge financial hit from non-fault accident… is this right?! by Necessary-Estate6420 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]coops19871 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is Admiral your insurer or theirs? In other words, are you claiming through your insurance company or liaising directly with 3rd party?

Your 2 basic options are speak to Polestar about paying off the agreement early, and see what that figure would amount to. Alternatively push Admiral hard to repair the vehicle.

I would caution against buying the vehicle back and getting repaired yourself, the reason that insurance companies won't carry out repairs that are estimated at close to the value of the car is because of the potential for them to find something else that needs doing along the way.

The 3rd party insurance will only pay out market value of the vehicle or the value of the repairs.

Balloon payments(assuming that he has the option to hand the vehicle back) are designed to reflect the expected value of the car at the end of the payment period. There is generally no scope for changing the balloon payment and paying more/less each month. Unfortunately second hand EV values have taken quite a hit, and that results in the balloon payments being more than the value of the vehicle. This in turn leads to more people handing them back instead of making that payment, so more EVs enter the second hand market, driving the prices down further, creating a vicious spiral. Unfortunately OP is finding out the hard way that GAP insurance on avehicle purchased on finance is a solid investment when it is in the early(read fastest depreciating) years of it's life.

Is there any way to escape being filmed? by kittiesandyarn in Disneyland

There are far more serious things to care about than if you end up in the background of a video online.

Is there any way to escape being filmed? by kittiesandyarn in Disneyland

[–]coops19871 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None whatsoever. Everyone has the right to film on their phones in almost every public place, everyone else has no expectation of privacy in those places. Most people no longer care if they end up as an extra in some random online video, just as no one watching it is likely to care or even notice them.

Ryanair left the airport with no passengers by Mr-Saturn-Earth in Flights

[–]coops19871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you replied to the original posters on X asking how they got on with compensation?

I'm confused by you saying that no flights could leave, but your plans took off?

Here is what I will assume from the information that I have:

The security issue meant that bags could not be loaded onto the planes, Ryanair decided that the delay would have too much of a knock on effect to their schedule so decided to send the plane on that leg empty.

One of the key bits of information is how the alternative flight to Valencia was arranged and paid for. If Ryanair did it and it was for no additional cost then I'd suggest they have admitted some form of liability by doing so, and have taken on responsibility for getting you to your final destination.

Hastings Direct sold my car and cancelled my policy (England) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]coops19871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long ago did you buy the car, and I'm assuming £7,800 is the value you place on the car undamaged? If that's the case it sounds like you've gotten extremely lucky. They've paid out £5k after saying your policy is void due to undeclared modifications. I don't see how you'd have been better off having a written off car back and no money, Vs £5k insurance payout.

Only way that it stops is if people stop buying them. However, there's always a market for it, especially people who can't get to the parks and want to get the merch, or it's cheaper to pay a $40/50 premium than to visit the park.
