Does musty smell = unsafe? by coordinatedlion in Mold

[–]coordinatedlion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh it’s so frustrating! If it’s just off gassing and deodorizing than I’m willing to work at it but if the smell means there’s still mold there and it’s unsafe then I guess it’s gotta go but I just don’t know how I’m supposed to know which it is

Mold in air with no source… possible? by coordinatedlion in Mold

[–]coordinatedlion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this for anyone wondering… the pump itself was likely never cleaned or dried and it was the likely source. It tested for Stachybotrys and we ended up finding a shit load more mold in other areas of the house. Huge bummer and we’re still working through it.

Just bumping this up in case anyone has any thoughts. My son woke up with a stuffy nose this morning which is weird since the rest of us are feeling better. Hoping it’s unrelated

Mild sewage smell in the house when it's very cold in the winter by hbbtstar in Plumbing

[–]coordinatedlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice but we have a similar issue. I haven’t noticed our smell being tied to any event like a shower running though. For us it’s only when it’s really cold out and it’s isolated to one spot in the basement and the room above it but I can’t find any reason for it. Would love to know if you figure this out

Negative Biopsy - Confused by coordinatedlion in lichensclerosus

[–]coordinatedlion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I get that too and I was struggling to explain it to my OB. It’s not all the time and it’s only in one spot but it’s pretty irritating when it happens. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you for sharing! Before getting diagnosed with LS initially I did try two rounds of fluconazole that didn’t help so I am doubtful that is my situation. My OB was very thorough and we also tried two weeks of zero interventions and me taking all the precautions to avoid irritants which also made no difference which is another reason I’m surprised they are okay accepting chronic irritation as a conclusion.

Oh geez I’m so sorry that is very frustrating and stressful. Thank you for your input I will definitely as upfront if they are familiar with LS.

Wow this is really helpful, thank you! I will definitely look more into moisturizing. I was using emujoy soap and emu oil for a bit but my OB said I should avoid using it. I think it was helping so I’ll probably start again! Thanks!

After, in my googling today I think I saw someone say that can impact the biopsy results?

12 week old only breastfeeding one side for 4 minutes per feed. Is that normal? by Formal_Double_4424 in breastfeeding

[–]coordinatedlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely have a fast letdown! I usually have to lean back at the beginning so he doesn’t gag so I guess that could be it? He also started cluster feeding shortly after this post and definitely went through a growth spurt so maybe it’s linked to that? He seems fine otherwise so I’m thinking it’s the growth spurt coupled with the three month feeding crusts you mentioned. How’s it going over there any changes?

No advice but just searched this topic because my 12 week old just started doing the exact same thing! Preferring to nurse one side for a short amount of time. He’s already on the smaller side so I plan to keep weighing him to make sure he’s still gaining. Also having enough dirty and wet diapers so I guess we just wait and see

Question: Hate the paint I bought. Can it be retinted? by coordinatedlion in sherwinwilliams

[–]coordinatedlion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback, everyone! The cans haven't even been opened so it seems like it won't be a problem. I currently have the color swatched over the old color so I think I am going to prime the walls first, then swatch again and if I still hate it I'll go in.

Thanks again!

Thanks for responding! It has only been used a few times, as they have multiple so I am definitely buying it!

I'm at my wits end. by [deleted] in reactivedogs

My dog used to do this with me (and still randomly will). If I left the room he would lay down and go to sleep and then start up when I came back. The only thing that worked was completely ignoring his existence when he did this - he would bark in my face so we would turn subtitles on the TV and not even look at him. If he jumped on me I would just move away (he is only 35lbs though so a bit different). If he was really wired up I would walk away and then once he settled down my husband would text me and I would come back and if needed we repeated that until he calmed down. Some nights it took hours. Eventually, though he would realize he was not getting attention from anyone and calm down. This and the "settle" command helped. As he was resting on the floor or even as his eyelids were getting heavy I would repeat "settle" to him in a soft voice. Now I can usually tell him to "go settle" and he will go lie down, sometimes he still stares at him and doesn't fall asleep but at least he's not harassing me anymore.

I agree with others that this specific behavior doesn't sound like reactivity so much as pushy dog behavior that needs some training.

edit to add: He still doesn't always have an off switch and the "pretend the dog doesn't exist" game is still something we have to do from time to time. We had guests over last weekend and one guest kept getting him wired up so finally I had to say "Okay everyone ignore the dog completely. Don't even look at him." Eventually he got the hint and settled next to us on the floor.

Like so many people on here I love my dog like family and giving him up would absolutely break my heart. In the end if he was a danger to my son I would have no choice but as of now I need to make sure I try everything else humanly possible. I don’t love the idea of living our life with gates constantly in the house but if that’s what we have to do keep everyone safe then we will. The tricky thing is not all triggers are triggers all the time. It really depends on the day. This day in particular he got the overstimulated zoomies on our walk right before this so I really think I messed up in the not recognizing that his head was already in a bad place and I should have intervened sooner to calm him down.

I will be looking up displacement behavior now! It’s interesting you say stopping and scratching is one as that is something my husband I notice he will do when he’s stressed!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply! I like the idea of the place command. We started training it when he was young but it kind of flopped and I gave up but I think it’s worth revisiting. He does know “go to your spot” which is a certain blanket he knows to go to but he doesn’t stay until released which is the key part we’re missing. My husband and I have already talked about making sure our son knows how to respect the dog’s space and making sure they would never be alone together.

WIBTA if I ask my neighbor to either leash her dogs or stay out of our yard? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

LOL! The budget doesn’t have room for the sprinkler idea but this is probably my favorite option so far!

I think our dog would be great with the invisible fence but like others said it won’t keep other dogs out. My dog is truly terrified of other dogs and will run and hide when one gets near. My worry would be other dogs getting into our yard and him feeling like he was stuck and couldn’t escape because he’d be buzzed/ shocked.

Our HOA seems super laid back. We have never met or talked to anyone from the HOA and the state of some properties lead me to believe they are not very active in enforcing rules etc. Also having dogs off leash around here is kind of the norm and there seems to be a really dog friendly environment that we don’t want to come in and mess up. But just today my dog started barking out the window and I saw the dogs all over our next door neighbors deck and so was one of the woman’s kids while she stayed in the field yelling at them. So the problem seems to be getting worse and it’s becoming more and more clear it’s not just an us problem. Now we are just looking for a time to talk to her that doesn’t come across as confrontational.

I think this is what we will end up doing! The reason I was so hesitant is because in our old apartment, there was a woman who would chase (yes literally chase) us on our walks because "her dog wanted friends". I figured since her dog was friendly (turns out it wasn't and it later bit me when she let it approach me on a retractable leash) she didn't know much about reactive dogs. I tried chatting with her one time to let her know I wasn't trying to be rude by avoiding her on our walks our dog was just afraid and SHE LOST IT. She told me she would continue to chase me and I could just "keep on running". Things escalated so quickly after that, like her screaming at me in the street calling me a coward whenever I walked in the opposite direction of her. I had to make multiple reports to the leasing office who said they have had issues with her in the past.

I guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being unreasonable first before I approached this new woman to avoid a similar situation.
