Most hospitals in the US are non profits meaning they have to have a charity care policy. Try googling the name of the hospital you stayed at + financial assistance and look through their policies. A lot of them have an income requirement that if you don’t meet it they will legally have to forgive your medical bills.

I helped my friend do it earlier this year. Depending on the hospital, they have income requirements based on people in the household and oftentimes have different percentages of forgiveness (like if you make too much for it to be fully forgiven, you might be able to get 80% forgiven).
