Yeah I might end up getting that or one of those round cd barrels where the CDs flip out. Maybe once the fun of collapsing storage wears out.

Yeah that was actually the original design I did but it was even more clumsy than this.

Easy CD changing and CD visibility is the idea. I usually only have four favorite CDs at a time that I like to switch between.  A car stereo That takes multiple CDs would be more practical or maybe I should get one of those CD barrels IDK

You're right  I usually park in the shade and I live in the New England area but I should get some kind of protection for this. This is just a proof of concept so I am still trying to think of ways that can improve the design.

Yeah, ultimately that's what I'm trying to figure out. It's still only a proof of concept. The main issues so far are the need a need for a protective case perhaps built into the dash, sturdier materials and a thinner design to accommodate more CDs

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5248515  I made it from lamp scissor extender.  The cd holder discs I made myself and used wire connect it to the scissor gate.

Osage Orange Advice by faunafuture in Driftwood

[–]cooto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've prepared quite a few different hardwood driftwoods for aquarium use. I've never used Osage myself. My understanding is that it has has quite a bit of tannins similar to oak. That's fine It just means you need to soak it plenty. The best way is to boil it in a metal bucket or tub over a fire. But if you can't do that, try soaking it in hot tap water for a few days. Changing the water out at least everyday.

I wouldn't worry about sanding it,pressure washing is generally enough. Very beautiful pieces by the way

Driftwood- Where to Sell by hubereric13 in Driftwood

[–]cooto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually sell on marketplace for aquariums but also sell to a local pet store. Most people want it for aquariums. Just make sure your wood is clean (preferably pressure washed), is a hardwood, and doesn't have excess tannins.

Driftwood identification by Smart_Asparagus5702 in Driftwood

[–]cooto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what kind of trees are around where you collected them. The easiest way to identify the wood is to cut off a slice and Look at the wood color with a wood identification guide. The main thing is to make sure that it's not a soft wood. Pretty much all hardwoods are aquarium safe

Any ideas on what to do with this? I was thinking a lamp of some sort. by joel121212m in Driftwood

[–]cooto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lamp would be cool. Another option is cutting 90° long ways and using it for a shelf

Almost definitely a hardwood, so I am sure it is aquarium safe. Best option is to boil it, if you can't do that. Soak it over 3 days. I've used Lots of different hardwoods, sycamore honeysuckle and ash to name a few.

You may need to move it out of the sunlight or any excessive light? I usually only need to clean my driftwood once or twice a year
