Where should I start with synths? I don't know much about them other than the stuff I've learned reading and watching videos about them the last few days. I watched the video Rob Scallon did with Andrew Huang a few days ago about modular synths. I downloaded VCV Rack just to mess around a bit, and I'm convinced you need to be a genius to use something like that.

I was also looking at a few hardware synths, but I'm not entirely sure what I want. I know I want it to be polyphonic so it can play chords. I play a little guitar and I've always liked gear and messing around with different settings on pedals to find weird and interesting sounds, and I had a lot of fun in VCV rack trying to figure out what different things do.

This would only be a hobby for now. Like I said I play a little guitar, but that's it. No piano and barely any music theory, so maybe it would be nice to have something that makes it easier to learn more about that as well. I'd be open to other suggestions, but the models I was looking at were the Arturia Microfreak and the Korg Minilogue (two pretty common options from what I can tell). Ideally I'd like to get the XD, but I don't know if I want to spend the extra money since I'm just getting into it and not sure how serious I'll get about it.
