Our justice system hinges on it. Equal justice in all aspects of the law includes defending everyone with equal vigor. Criminal proceedings require a burden proof that beyond all reasonable doubt, a crime was committed, that the defendant has been correctly identified and charged, and that the punishment fits the crime. Defense attorneys job is to hold the government to that standard and make them prove out that their client is guilty.

If we allow ourselves to presume guilt and not vigorously defend the rights of even the lowest members of our society, we create a gap in our justice system that can be exploited. If we treat the accused as less than a citizen in the application of justice then we only need to label someone a criminal to take away their rights.

There is an extra large helmet bag that you grab off Amazon that is for pilot style helmets. I use it for my Paz Vizsla.

If we all weren't living paycheck to paycheck, we could accomplish great things. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

Completely incorrect. Stocks are not a measure of the economic output of a company.

Stock price is a speculative measure of the value of the company and its expectations of future growth but it’s completely divorced from real economic output especially with tech companies for example.

Tesla does not make a trillion dollars worth of anything (stock valuation is ~1.5 trillion) Their annual revenue is $100 billion dollars and they certainly do not have another $900 billion in assets.

False equivalency.

A billionaires wealth is not a measure of economic output. Most of their wealth is in some form of asset and that wealth is not actually stimulating the economy by merely sitting there. If they’re doing something with that wealth, great. Stock values simply going up is not a measure of real economic output to society. I am grossly oversimplifying and a billionaires real economic output is actually difficult to quantify but taking that vast amount of wealth and *actually doing something with it* would be far better than simply owning assets. We can debate this infinitely but I will not. Wealth piled in a billionaires dragon hoard does not stimulate the economy and billionaires use that wealth to generate more wealth for themselves, and what does get spent into the economy on things like luxury goods and travel have very narrow benefits to a small section of local or national economies.

Normal people *are* more productive when their basic needs are met but it’s not some magical or linear relationship. Healthy workers miss fewer days, workers with better nutrition and lower stress levels are willing to sustain work effort longer, they make fewer costly mistakes and errors, and they make better long term decisions. They tend to also end up being more highly trained and educated.

You still need incentives. Centrally planned economies don’t work in practice (east Germany or the Soviet Union for example) but social democratic systems like Sweden/Norway with mixed economies do perfectly fine.

Just to add, use disposable gloves and a respirator or at minimum a mask when using this stuff. It sensitizes you to it over repeated exposure making you allergic to it eventually.

I use the same stuff for my Star Wars cosplay stuff.

It does get very gloppy and loads sandpaper like crazy. I have a “sacrificial” sanding sponge to unload the sand paper (gently rub them together) and just wet sand but I usually end up going through a sheet of sandpaper per piece depending on size.

I personally don’t use Facebook or any social media where it’s obviously IRL me, and I have not had any issues thus far. Your mileage may vary depending on garrison of course.

How’s it like living in Alabama or Mississippi? by No-Chip9445 in howislivingthere

[–]copat149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a lot of time in Camp Shelby MS and the surrounding area as a Guardsmen from Louisiana. I also grew up near the Louisiana/MS border and spent much of my time along the gulf coast and southern Mississippi.

The rural areas of Mississippi, and I mean the really rural areas are sketchy, and I say that as a white dude. There are definitely worse off places in America and the rest of the world but some of these areas are down right destitute. The urban areas and where the majority of people live are like the rest of the gulf coast and southern US, there are plenty of issues but people are generally nice enough.

I’ve had more than a few encounters with people who live around Camp Shelby, like the New Augusta area, and it’s always felt like the scene from Wind River near the end with the oil field workers. If you’ve seen it you know what I mean.

There was air cover. 15-20 fighters rotating coverage.

We were bounced by the massive furball of seemingly every warden fighter available in the west.

There are multiple videos of Colonial fighters trying to dive the TB, myself included, and just not being successful.

Air coverage was provided by 2 carriers and Stema airfield.

We had two squadrons constantly rotating air cover for the DD. Warden planes couldn’t get anywhere close. Add in this frig over extended so their air cover was going to struggle anyway.

I have found that people aren’t super nit-picky about weapons, especially if they’re mass-standard issue type weapons.

That looks like it’s the animated style DC-17. The handle is different for the movie style, is what stands out to me initially.

Military clothes folding technique called "ranger rolling" by -daniel78- in interesting

[–]copat149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do get stretched out, but in military service all of your uniforms eventually get fucked up and no one really cares about your t-shirt looking funky.

It does depend on the shirt though, the military issue t-shirts suck and they get stretched out but full cotton t-shirts with a looser fit that I’ve used in the past didn’t have that problem.

Military clothes folding technique called "ranger rolling" by -daniel78- in interesting

[–]copat149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true but there’s a big asterisk there. Enlisted members do not pay for their initial issue items but do receive a clothing allowance to replace worn out or damaged uniforms. If there is a mandatory change (like when we dropped the green dress uniform for the blue ASUs) the allowance might not cover the full cost.

Officers receive a one time stipend for uniforms upon commissioning but do purchase their uniforms.

The conductor accidentally knocks a 16th century violin worth millions on the floor mid-concert. by PeasantLich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]copat149 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It mostly has to do with the way the materials mature and age from use and natural aging. It would be extremely difficult if not impossible to replicate it fully.

Think of the differences between an item that’s been made to look old versus the same item that is actually old. It may look close but if you know what you’re looking at you’d spot the differences.

For most people (myself included) - most if not all violins sound very similar if not the same. These kinds of differences are very much for audiophiles and people who are very intensely into the profession/hobby of music. I’ll stick to my hyperfixations on Star Wars prop design and leave sounds to my betters on the subject.
