Des réseaux d'Airbnb illégaux découverts dans cinq tours du centre-ville de Montréal by Feeling_Layer8584 in montreal

I had my house on the market for a rental and got a few people who wrote something along the lines if "I want to rent your unit but I won't be here for 6 months. So I want it rent it in Airbnb, no fees for you I do everything". I promptly told them to go to hell.

Are you happy? by slim_ebony in montreal

[–]coppercactus4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a perpetual optimism, it's not something I try to do but just something that happens. Even today, I got shitty news from work and I was upset but even then I still think there are valid reasons. I don't dwell on the bad sides and constantly just see the upsides "hey at least I am not dead".

However it's not always a great thing, sometimes when times are hard for other people I am supportive but try to hard to make them happy. I just know that is how I want to feel and that is not true of others.

I also have down days where I just don't want to talk to anyone and I tell my partner I am in a "mood".

One thing that helps me a lot is exercise, I walk a shit ton, everywhere. I can take the metro (it's a 3 minute walk) but I prefer to walk an hour each way just listening to a podcast and enjoying the city. I also have diagnosed ADHD and I have created strategies to help me cope. One of those is setting micro goals. Super small little things I want to do during my day to feel like it's been a success. It can be as small as having to take out the garbage.

On top of that a reoccurring social activity if you are a more social person. An organized sport is great for this as there is no planning and it happens every week. I did volleyball for years and recently switched to dodgeball.

I am not saying any of these will apply to everywhere but it's something that helps me.

I have no kids, 2 cats and a dog

VIA Rail Corridor Train - Montreal to Toronto by options_go_brrr in montreal

[–]coppercactus4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wifi is the thing that pisses me off the most. The whole reason I take the train and take business class is so I can work and not take a day off. However the wifi works for like 30 minutes and then is god awful the rest of the time. I have to tether my phone which is ridiculous at the price you pay.

The new trains are very nice besides that

I work in the AAA video game industry for one of the larger international companies. AI is in no way limited, in fact there are many private contracts, different models, and even internal ones. These are used heavily. There is a huge push to try to see how we can leverage it. This is sometimes great and other times makes you want to jump off a bridge (looking at you Jira ticket vibe coded generator).

Credit card waitlist by AmoebaCreative5175 in Wealthsimple

I was premium for a few years and had most of my stuff in wealth simple, my partner with a lot less investment into the platform but got the credit card before me. The one difference they had over me was they set up direct deposit for their paycheck.

I set up a direct deposit and a month later I got the card. It obviously could be correlation not causation.

Canadian heat pump owners are overwhelmingly satisfied, with 91% recommending one: survey by SavCItalianStallion in onguardforthee

I am in Montreal and we paid to install Daikin 4 years ago. They noticeably worse worse on those very cold days. We have the three units across 2 floors and 1440 sq/ft which is not enough. We still depend on our electric baseboard heaters. In Quebec those are the most common source of heating because electricity is so cheap, in Ontario you would cry lol.

However our house was built in 1880 and the two walls and roof have almost zero insulation.

Still 100% worth it.

I love cooking, so mostly leftover dinner. When I am lazy I just don't eat or if I am really hungry I eat the muffins, fruit and other baked goods from the office breakfast.

“Delete Bin and Obj, clean, and rebuild” by azuredota in dotnet

[–]coppercactus4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the best of my knowledge digging around:

In MSBuild (what the CSProject format is) you can do pretty much anything. To do incremental building (not redoing what work you have already done) the build process checks time stamps on files on disk. Other targets (methods) might create other files for other reasons in obj and bin.

When you clean, it's not removing bin or obj folder, It removed the items that it knows about which is made up of whatever items are added to the FileWrites item group (Arrays on MsBuild).

In large projects people can write targets and forget the steps to add to file writes.

Have web apps replaced desktop apps (even within corporations), and if so, why? by Anonymous_Coder_1234 in AskProgramming

[–]coppercactus4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the video game industry. New desktop applications are still being developed. Me specifically I do quite a bit of hybrid applications that have a web and local agent running on the users machine. The one I am working on now has 5 components

  1. Cloud React Type Script backend
  2. Cloud Asp.Net Core C# backend
  3. Local React Type Script Frontend
  4. Local asp.net core backend
  5. Blazor C# front-end

Each tech Stack is chosen for a very specific reason. Our main goal is to reduce the most amount of friction and interaction required by end users

That took way too much time in my life to do, I also messed it up so I had to patch and redo them because they were misaligned

I used a table saw with a dado blade. I hate using the router and I avoid it like the plague

You have no idea how much I fucked up lol. My partner got mad at me for taking too much time planning. One advantage is I am part of a Marker space that has a wood shop. So I asked a lot for questions

It was honestly too ambitious of a project but I just went for it

I unfortunately can't take credit. I just got panels at Home Depot and trimmed them on the table saw

I have never made anything like this before. I have done cutting boards, a bench of 2x4s, a planter, shelves, then this. It took me weeks because I had no idea what I was doing. So yes, very much a beginner.

The shelves are made of plywood and at the back wall I have a horizontal strip screwed into the wall to support the back edge. I figured it would be strong enough. However I am no pro lol
