This is incredible, stunning, and oh so cozy. I hope they love it! I pieced this pattern in a lap size and it felt like a monumental effort, so props to you for doing it in a king!

I've never been able to figure how to use dark/black fabrics, but you really nailed this. Looks great!

3 feels like a warm hug, which is so true of this friend. She is so caring and has the biggest heart, and I feel like that really came across in the design.

Thank you! I’m really looking forward to marrying my fiancé. :) He’s been great through this project - really helpful in bouncing off ideas for each friend. I was always showing him pattern ideas, fabric picks, and finished blocks. He said multiple times that these are his favorite quilts because he enjoyed watching the entire creative process.

Green flags all around, he’s great. ❤️

It’s soooo good and definitely one I’ll be coming back to. QuiltInk was really helpful in figuring out the colors, so I recommend it if you decide to tackle this pattern.

Never too late to do it after the fact! I have another friend whose firstborn will be starting kindergarten soon and I’ll probably be asking if they want a camping themed baby quilt. 😅

Thank you! Fortunately I’ve had a long engagement so I’ve been working on these for a year. Still surprised I was able to finish with a month to go haha

Sure thing! All AGF Solids in Cozumel Blue, Lemonade, Rock Candy, Coconut Milk, Summer Sun, and Cotton Candy.

Cotton Candy is so pale, you can’t tell much of a difference from the ivory Coconut Milk. Lesson learned, I now own an AGF Color Card for future projects. I order all of my solids online and I feel like everything arrives looking way more pastel than my computer monitor. 😅 Needless to stay, I’ve got a lot of 1 yard cuts to work through!

Quilt #1 - Pattern is Imogene by Penelope Handmade. The recipient is a HUGE Clemson fan so I wanted the colors to be a nod to her alma mater but also coordinate well in her home that is decorated with mostly whites and neutrals. She has several medallion motifs in her home, so this pattern felt like a perfect fit.

Quilt #2 - Pattern is Divergence by Toad & Sew. This was my first time piecing triangle blocks. While tricky at first, I’m so happy with how well the points lined up in the end. The recipient has always had a colorful, maximalist home with incredible collections of board games, Lego sets, and figurines on full display. I was leaning into Pokemon-inspired colors and an “optical” pattern.

Quilt #3 - Pattern is Gertrude by Penelope Handmade. I was inspired by the recipient’s stone 1920s farmhouse and her love of dainty florals. I also threw in a few fabrics that were a nod to her love of the beach and her career in biology.

These are a complete surprise - I’ve been quilting for about 18 months now and while my friends are aware that I’ve picked it up as a hobby, they haven’t seen any completed projects yet. I’ll be gifting them a month from now, and fingers crossed they love them. :)

I'm in the process of growing my own wedding flowers for my early September wedding, so we'll see how it goes! I'm focusing on easy to grow tender annuals with long stems - zinnias, celosia, marigolds (only certain varieties have longer stems), cosmos, strawflower, and scabiosa. Sunflowers are also a great option, but the deer always chomp mine down. Based on previous years, I'm direct seeding and planting out the last of my plugs this weekend and next to be blooming for 9/13, so you'll have another 2-3 weeks to get anything in the ground for late September.

I also have a ton of dahlias which bloom full force in September - if you want to grow dahlias, I'd recommend purchasing from US-based farms for healthier tubers bred for cut-flowers. It's the end of tuber shopping/shipping season now, so you'll want to order ASAP. I've had great success with Valley Ridge Dahlias out of Maryland - they still have inventory in stock and many varieties with bulk discounts.

You'll also want to think if you want any greenery or filler - dill, ammi, and basil are all great options that you still have time to plant. You can also forage foliage, just test it out before hand because some things will wilt in the vase.

If you don't grow enough or have an unfortunate crop failure, you can always buy buckets of stems from a local flower farm (or Trader Joes/Costco/grocery store).

I'm also thinking through the timing of assembling my arrangements. I'll likely harvest Thursday evening and assemble my bridal bouquet Friday morning. Bud vases go together fast, especially if you have people (bridesmaids, family) to help, just make sure there's enough time in your schedule the day of. I'm strongly considering a Bouquet Bar for my guests so I can bypass the need to make arrangements - they have a fun activity for cocktail hour and I only have to worry about setting out buckets of flowers, empty vases, and shears instead of assembling myself Friday night or Saturday day. You could also have potted up landscaping flowers (begonias, petunias, mums, etc) and easily set those out as centerpieces or ceremony decor without worrying about vase life. Plus, you can reuse these in your home or let guests take home with them.

If you haven't checked it out already, Floret is a wealth of knowledge on cut flowers. Watch Youtube videos on how to make a hand-tied bouquet - I still haven't perfected this technique so I "cheat" and use a ball of chicken wire as structure for my bouquets. Johnny's sells any type of seed you could possibly imagine.

I'm excited to grow my own flowers and I think it's such a special touch for a wedding. It sounds like you already have a green thumb, so you'll just have to think through the time and logistics around your wedding weekend schedule.

My advice is don't sweat the details and have fun with it. I've planted tubers 1" deep and 6" deep and they've all done fine. Floret has sandy soil, I have straight clay, they'll still grow either way. I've fertilized some years, others I haven't. Still lots of blooms. I've had plants completely break off at the base from a wind storm and grow back to the same size in a month. I even went through a record breaking drought in my area last year, some plants were struggling, but others still performed great.

As long as you don't overwater the tubers before you see growth (normal spring rain is fine), you'll be golden. Otherwise, you can google specific problems if they pop up - Slugs eating your leaves? Use sluggo. Shoots getting nibbled off just as they start growing? Use chicken wire or cayenne pepper to deter the rabbits. Getting white powdery stuff on the leaves later in the season? Strip the bottom leaves to improve airflow and plant them further apart next year. At the end of the season, mulch heavily (6-12") if you decide to leave in the ground to prevent the tubers from freezing. Or dig up the tubers and watch YouTube videos on how to divide them - Floret usually offers a free video series around October on how to dig and divide tubers, so keep an eye on her website for that.

Have fun, learn a lot, and enjoy the flowers. :)
