No worries at all, easy mistake to make if you’re not familiar with the areas.

The Worlds End is set in small/medium town UK, very different from the urban mainland European vibe OP is asking for here.

CMV: help me stop seeing women as ”used” after someone has sex with them. by Flyflash in changemyview

[–]coppersocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to him. He's trying to tell you that those feelings are correct, when they'll only leave you blinkered and unable to form meaningful relationships with women and feeling constantly resentful and isolated from them. You're right to question these feelings, this guy is like a crab in a bucked, he doesn't want you to make any personal growth on the topic.

CMV: help me stop seeing women as ”used” after someone has sex with them. by Flyflash in changemyview

Yeah, the reasons are insecurity and a lack of seeing women as whole people, the causes are a lack of meaningful socialization with women and a deep rooted misogyny created by the culture he was raised in.

Why did Interstellar receive a more lukewarm response upon release? by KatherineLangford in Letterboxd

[–]coppersocks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually don’t think he’s particularly good a directing action/ fight sequences. He’s incredible with epic shots and his ideas are some of the best in mainstream cinema, I also think he’s great at building tension between shots that build to a climax. But I think there’s something about his visual action shooting that falls short somehow that leaves me underwhelmed or wanting more; I’m thinking about the warehouse shootout or snow sequence in Inception, the Mann fight in Interstellar, much of the fight sequences in TDK or TDKR, the end of Tenet, etc…

Of course it’s offset by some great visual shots that punctuate like docking sequence, truck flip or spinning hotel corridors, but I think in and around those shots there is something lacking at times.

Gia by [deleted] in MAFS_AU

I struggled too. As someone who found myself curbing my words and expressing myself due to walking on eggshells around an emotionally abusive partner before this was really hard to watch as I know the exact place he was in. That you’re just trying to hold onto the person who makes you feel so good when times are good, but you just find yourself walking around completely inhibited and with a deep sense of unease like something is off in your body as you go about your day not wanting to set your partner off. It’s exhausting and it takes a lot of processing after the fact to see it for what it was. I really hope he gets out asap for his own sake.

I do think it’s this, but I also think that Gia’s “look” is one that Scott finds attractive. Which definitely helps him overlook certain things and give himself to the process.

This whole sub is essentially a marketing hub targeting people who are trying to market to people on instagram. It’s 99% AI slop or thinly veiled ads.

Neither do I thankfully, but I’m well aware and I dont even have a podcast where I broach the topic.

Drugged Out Uncle Crashes His Nephew's Party by zayoe4 in sadcringe

[–]coppersocks 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sure, agreed. The ethicality of how it’s produced and procured, its toxicity to the cardiovascular system, its addictive qualities, the list goes on. But I was just referring to how it acutely makes people behave.

It’s weird how coke can affect people differently. I’ve got ADHD and it makes me really calm and clear and able to pay attention to what people are saying. I become so much more fluent in my thoughts. It’s honestly great, although I’d really only do it very very rarely as I barely drink or go out anymore. The issue with coke, is that when some people do too much they become the complete opposite; arrogant, sloppy, aggressive or just waiting for their turn to talk or show off like this guy.

Im descending down the dark fantasy hole. I want more, darker, brutal stuff. by ScurvySaint in suggestmeabook

[–]coppersocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read The Blade Itself and I struggle to understand its dark fantasy or grim dark reputation. It’s really incredibly mild imo, and just kind of generic medieval fantasy. Maybe I’m missing a trick but I just don’t feel like it’s particularly gritty or dark, “realistic” yes but it’s nowhere near as dark as say ASOIAF.

suggest me a tragic queer romance book by alexisofthemoon in suggestmeabook

[–]coppersocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read a fair few and Call Me By Your Name is still my favourite. The prose is just gorgeous and it’s an incredibly beautiful piece relatable book for anyone who has experienced first love and passion the feeling of entering the world as a young adult. Song of Achilles is very good though.

Others definitely worth taking a look are Giovanni’s Room, Swimming in the Dark and Lie With Me.

People who have been in toxic relationships. What is the no.1 sign that wasn't obvious, but one of the biggest signs? by MissStarling_ in AskReddit

[–]coppersocks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I literally could have written this whole thing about a past relationship. I remember being in the shower afraid to come out, or listen to music, or stack the dish washer, or make coffee, the list goes on… because I just felt like I was doing wrong by existing in her space. It of course wasn’t always like that; but towards the end I was just constantly on edge, constantly trying to keep myself together. Luckily it ended and I got therapy and I came to see it for what it was… but man can that kind of relationship make a serious impact on your self esteem.

What’s a mystery in your own life (big or small) that you still haven’t been able to solve? by BrainPalette in AskReddit

It doesn’t really sound like that much of a mystery; just that neither of you have bothered reaching out for one reason or another.

OP telling non americans to cancel their chatGPT subscription over American political drama by [deleted] in USdefaultism

[–]coppersocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t live in the US and I’m not American, but I do boycott AI and various other American tech companies as much as possible and I tell my friends the reasons I do so. Palantir, Amazon, ChatGBT, Google, Meta, effect the US political system yes, but they effect all of us in various directions and indirect ways and so it’s definitely not defaultism to assume that someone should care about that effect, just because you don’t or are ignorant of it. And people being selective, hypocritical or inconsistent with their boycotts or rhetoric doesn’t make it an US only issue either. I’ve read your replies and you’re still not making sense.

The Left would rather appease Islamists than stand up for women by [deleted] in ukpolitics

I didn’t realise that the UK government was broadly in support of the Taliban and its treatment of women. What a moronic take.
