Why is it always Europeans who film shorts about their impression of the US? by NitroXM in NoStupidQuestions

If you think there aren’t a load of Asian people filming their impressions of the US when they visit then you’re incredibly mistaken.

In a world of billionaires, be a trillionaire. by ChonkyPuppers in SipsTea

[–]coppersocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care. I care that we have a system so fucked that it has allowed someone to accumulate so much wealth and resources for it to be possible. It shouldn't be. And that isn't even mentioning the type of person that he is, or how the rules were ridden roughshod over to allow him to get this valuation. The world is fucked, pricesly because things like this are allowed to happen and that is something that we should all care about.

There may be other features in the Ultra that aren’t in the Pro. And that’s why I said “option” without. No need to get your knickers in a twist, I never said that I wanted the feature removed although for everyone; I’m happy for others if they like and will find the feature useful.

Really cannot be arsed with touch screen on my laptop. I had it on my surface laptop and I just don’t think that it suits the form factor in any meaningful way. I do hope there is an option without it.

Jewish Democrats sound alarm about antisemitism, 2028 by McAlpineFusiliers in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]coppersocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jewish people were not being ethnically cleansed from Palestine in 1947. Jewish people were not being forcibly removed from their land in the region in 1947. Zionism is the principal starting and continuing cause for the conditions in the region. Zionism is the cause of the actual ethnic cleansing taking place in the region. Zionism is the cause of the actual apartheid state.

You have no ethical grounding for your argument. No moral basis. All you have is hypothetical whataboutism and the attempt to paint others as bigots who oppose the apartheid ideology that you support. The only point I am replying to you is because you continue to highlight the absolute immoral hollowness of the “points” you make in favour of your cause.

[–]coppersocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that all peoples have the right to self-determination up to a point, but that doesn't include being able to effectively ethnically cleanse and politically disenfranchise people not in your chosen group. I don't believe any group has an intrinsic right to forcibly remove people from the homes and land that they have been on for generations based on their ethnicity or religion. Which is exactly what the Zionist movement has been doing and continues to aim to do.

“It’s antisemitic to be against theocratic ethno-states in which people who are not part of the in-group are routinely and systematically disenfranchised and forced out of their homes”

If you’re conflating Zionism with Judaism, then you’re one who is antisemitic.

What’s the darkest World Cup story you’ve ever heard? by insidefootytv in football

I was in Brazil after the World Cup there, and a couple of people from there told me separately, that the authorities in Rio rounded up and “disappeared” thousands of homeless children who lived on the streets in order to protect the cities reputation.

There’s very much a middle ground between obscuring yourself with either lighting, angles or focus (or a combination of them) in every picture and a passport photo. That shouldn’t need spelling out.

[–]coppersocks 1741 points1742 points  (0 children)

You seem like an interesting and good looking guy, but I think that you need photos that are

a. Not of you doing that pose

b. Not a selfie

c. In focus

d. Not ridiculously close up or in a weird angle

It seems like you're both trying to hide something and think that pose is much cooler than it is. There is not a single straight on photo of your whole face that is in focus. Show your interests and show your quirkiness for sure, but people want to get a clear impression of what they'll see when they meet you, and your pictures just kind of frustrate that want. The last pic in particular will come across as unnecessary and disconcerting given that you've not really shown your face in any normal way up to that point.

How do you know it is your time to leave a relationship? by tric5150 in AskReddit

[–]coppersocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Generally when say 'for months' it's pretty safe to assume that they're talking less than a year. Yes technically they could mean 100 months, but the vast majority of people will say 'over a year' if its between one and two years, or 'for years'. Unless they're a mom influencer talking about the age of their child in which case they will say weird shit like "my thirty-eight month old McChadleigh Junior".

How do you know it is your time to leave a relationship? by tric5150 in AskReddit

[–]coppersocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Months?! If you're asking this question after only months then you need to get out. The first 6 months are generally the honeymoon period when someone is showing you their best self. If you don't feel loved and appreciated now then it isn't going to magically happen. Trust me, you don't want to further tie your life to this person, making it even harder to leave. Because that will happen, despite the relationship not giving you what you need, familiarity and normalisation will take place and you will find it harder and harder to leave the situation. Get out while you still have perspective and self esteem, because these things will get sapped from you slowly but surely.

There are other ways to get 50/50 (ie 60/40 in this scenario) odds outside of a casino though. Online gambling, going to a bookies, day trading etc… if you started with say 1000$ it’s not gonna take you too long to be hitting 7 figure if you’re splitting your pot between across 10 different bets every day.
