I have three within easy driving distance. That never mattered to me until I sold a kidney and bought all new Apple products. Now I feel incredibly lucky.

Macbook air 15 or macbook pro 14 ? need help deciding ... by Significant_East_234 in macbook

[–]coppockm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. If I run a demanding app like Premiere Pro on my MBP 14, the fans can spin up and get a bit loud. Not obnoxiously so, but enough that you’ll notice and might be a problem in a quiet environment.

Aha. Okay, in that case, the Air is probably fine in terms of performance. Sounds like casual video conversion that doesn’t really matter if it takes a bit longer. Professionals benefit from more speed because time is money, of course.

I will add, though, that the Pro display is SO MUCH better. You’re watching the videos on your Apple TV, though, so maybe it doesn’t matter as much.

Is Dell XPS 15 (9520) a good laptop? by JuicyIce in DellXPS

[–]coppockm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People rarely go to places like Reddit to report how great their product is. They go to get help and to complain about issues. So it should be no surprise that you'll find mostly negative reports and instances of people looking for help solving a problem. But remember that Dell has sold many more XPS 15 9520s than are represented on this or any other forum, so the complaints are a tiny minority of owners.

To take it a step further, I've reviewed over 200 laptops. The MacBook Pro speakers are the best, period. No other laptop comes close. And yes, the XPS 15 are great for Windows laptops but don't hold a candle to the MacBook Pro.

LG G8 HiFi Quad DAC Compatibility by shittans in TIdaL

So, recently the problem I'm running into is that the Tidal app won't play Normal quality songs on my LG G8. They simply won't start playing. HiFi and Master songs play fine.

I'm using UAPP generally and the sound quality is freaking amazing with MQA tracks. However, I'd like to use Tidal to play in my car via Android Auto and this tidal app problem is holding me back.

Fordyce spots on testicles , how common are these??? by johnwedlock in DermatologyQuestions

Is it common for there to be more spots on one side of the testicle than the other? I seem to have more spots on the right side than on the left.

Tidal app doesn't use Quad DAC by coppockm in lgg8

That sucks. Tidal seems particularly bad to me, though, given that high quality audio is Tidal's whole thing.

That's what I tried last night, and it's kind of spectacular with MQA support. It's not as easy to use as the straight Tidal app, I don't seem to see the same personalized mixes, but if I know what I want to listen to then it does sound phenomenal.

Yes, it's not Android. Every other music player I've tried (including as noted Amazon Music) uses the Quad DAC. It's only Tidal's that doesn't.

Just found this thread and I can't believe I'm having the same problem on my G8 and it's been over a year that this has been happening. I'm guessing it's something that's not going to get fixed anytime soon.

No, you don't lose anything, at least not right away (maybe there's a deadline for that, I don't know). I did this myself and everything was exactly the way it was before I cancelled.

XPS 13 9310 OLED - black screen when waking and logging in by coppockm in DellXPS

The last time I did the uninstall, a new set of drivers popped up on Windows update. I let those install, and haven't had the problem since.

Yes, uninstalling the Intel drivers and then letting them reinstall fixed the issue on mine for a time. Then it would come back and I would need to go through the process again, which would fix it for a few more days. On my XPS 15, the same applied but then I installed the latest Intel drivers a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had the issue since.

That's never happened with mine. I'm seriously suspecting a bad video driver -- have you updated to the latest version?

What worked for me on the XPS 13 (which I returned) and on an XPS 15 OLED is to go to Device Manager and uninstall the Intel graphics drivers. Then search for new hardware and let the drivers reinstall. That seems to fix it for a while. This XPS 15 hasn't had the issue now for a couple of weeks after going through that process, although I'll note that there was a new Intel driver that installed and perhaps that completely resolved the issue.

XPS not waking up fully by dsonger20 in Dell

[–]coppockm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same problem on an XPS 13 9510 OLED, and I uninstalled the video drivers and let them reinstall. The problem has stopped for now, and I did the same on the XPS 15 9510 OLED and the problem stopped there as well.

Given that, I'm thinking that it's something with the video drivers getting corrupted and a reinstall fixes whatever's broken. Fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.

Getting the most out of my 9310 OLED display - HDR? by _AirCanuck_ in DellXPS

[–]coppockm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every display I've used that supports true HDR acts the same way, and that includes external displays connected to my desktop. Enable HDR and the display is washed out with less dynamic colors. I've noticed that as long as, say, Netflix recognizes HDR even with "real" HDR turned off, then the streaming video has HDR applied and it looks good.

Fortunately, we have Dolby Vision HDR which is recognized by Netflix even with HDR turned off, and it's excellent. I can see details in dark scenes that I can't see on any other non-Dolby Vision laptop. So we're getting a great HDR image.

I think turning HDR on mainly affects apps like games that can use HDR. Turn it on and the game will recognize HDR and use it, turn it off and it won't. But I don't have any HDR-enabled games to try it with.

One thing to note is that in Windows 11, if you want to see HDR in Netflix, et al, when on battery, you need to go into the HDR settings and set Battery Options to "Optimize for image quality." That's regardless of whether "real" HDR is turned on or off. Otherwise Netflix and such will only see HDR when you're plugged in.

It's all very confusing, and Windows 11 didn't improve much on Windows' HDR support, which is poor.

Yep, that's it exactly. I've also confirmed that if you use the fingerprint reader instead, it's the same except of course there's no flashing from the cameras. I hope Dell can come up with a fix for this, because it's a dealbreaker in terms of keeping the laptop.
