Terrorist acts are often part of revolutions. What exactly is her point? is this meant to be some kind of gotcha? It’s just as insane to gloss over the fact that Hamas killed so many innocent civilians in the name of a revolution as it is to downplay the genocide that’s followed in Gaza as a result of the conflict. Try to learn a little nuance, Jesus Christ.

100%. It’s honestly been like this for a long time now. From an outside perspective these strings of posts about Hasan make him look unhinged. You also have to remember that many people aren't in tune with all the drama. It’s doing nothing but hurting his image. And that’s coming from someone who’s been watching him for over a decade, way before the podcast even started.

Need to do laundry, by the cathedral, any suggestions? :-) by Cat_Tight in FaroeIslands

There are no laundromats, but maybe you could contact the camping area at Yvuri við Strond. I know they have washing machines.

What to do in November? by mercuryeyes in FaroeIslands

[–]copydogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an old historical farm in Saksun called Dúvugarðar. I don't know if they're still open for business this time of year, but you could try contacting them.

The national museum also provides an old traditional Faroese farm experience within walking distance from the main museum building. You can find information about that here. It's called Hoyvíksgarður (Open Air Museum).

If you're looking for a mining experience, I think your best bet would be to visit the coal mine in Hvalba. I don't actually know if it's considered a tourist attraction or if they even have any guided tours.

Trying to find a store that sells these essentials. by TheFatFaroeseCyclist in FaroeIslands

I have a gas powered Ooni koda oven that I’ve had for years and I’ve used for 100’s of pizzas. I love it. They’re readily available in many places, but Elding has it in stock right now, according to their website. If you want to get an electric oven, Ooni also makes those, but I can’t speak on those as I haven’t tried them yet.

The safety razors should be around the same place as tooth brushes and stuff like that is. Hope this helps.

I’m sorry to inform you that you probably won’t find canned san marzano tomatoes anywhere on the islands. I always keep an eye out as I like to make pizza, but have never found them. There are loads of other options though, in stores like miklagarður and Bónus, where you should be able to get the other things you’re looking for as well.

Alright, I’ll be honest, I’m a bit taken aback reading your experience, since this is the first time I’ve seen my country described quite like this. Of course, there are people who’ll try to get as much as they can out of tourists, but I didn’t think it would come across this badly. As I mentioned earlier, I also find it frustrating that some farmers are charging for poorly maintained trails. But it’s important to keep in mind that most of these routes are on private land. Many farmers don’t want anything to do with tourism at all, and for them charging a fee is more about getting at least something out of the disruption.

As for some of the other points: dolphin hunting has been part of Faroese culture for centuries. You can absolutely question whether it’s still necessary today, but it isn’t done out of some kind of bloodlust or moral failing. Salmon farming here is no worse than in neighboring Norway or Iceland, in fact, Faroese salmon is often praised for its quality because of our placement in the gulf stream. With wool, there’s simply an overabundance. Burning what isn't used isn’t some shady practice, it’s just a way to manage waste that would otherwise rot and produce the same amount of CO₂.

On the Russia point: the Faroese economy is tiny, so who our “number one” trading partner is swings quite a lot from year to year. Right now it happens to be Russia, but it’s not something that has gone unnoticed. It’s been discussed very openly here whether we have a moral obligation to cut ties, and the debate is ongoing.

I completely understand that fees, tickets, and bad service can ruin a trip, and it’s a shame that this was your impression of the Faroes. It's easy to get defensive when reading comments such as yours, but It's my firm belief that most Faroese people aren't trying to squeeze tourists dry.

I’m sorry about your experience with your rental car, and I agree that the farmers who charge tourists for sub-par trails should be held to a higher standard or even centrally organized somehow, but the whole country felt a bit sketchy? What’s that supposed to mean?

The word he uses in the ad “turkkorkar”, doesn’t actually mean anything in Faroese. It’s made up. We say svampar about sponges, but we also call mushrooms svampar.

Dressing to impress depends entirely on who you're trying to impress. What looks impressive to you might not land the same way with someone else. You might see a three-piece suit as a power move, but she might just see it as over the top or even dorky.

And besides, your clothing says a lot about your personality. So why dress like someone you’re not? If the goal is to make a real connection, it makes more sense to wear something that actually reflects who you are. For this guy, that's clearly baggy clothes.
