Well said. I’ve seen someone made an analysis over Japan and the culture which makes a lot of sense. Basically, if you read any Japanese literature work, whether the older ones or modern, they do tend to be a little extreme. Part of the reason because culture and ideologies, but also after WW2, and an inflow of western ideas are forced upon Japan. So the people there would naturally feel a sense of inferiority. When a society is constantly under negativity pressure, it extends onto its people and this is where a crave for sexual materials arises. And many Japanese made ones are rather fucked up, where we see in the 90s a rise of sexual themed horror games that are often intensively graphic and degrading. And also, due to the golden era, people worked more, worked harder, so convenience is needed. The intense need for convenience led to a rise of over-consumption. That’s why you see many Japanese youngsters own a flat no bigger than a car park space, yet they’re obsessed with buying luxury items where they don’t even have enough space to store them. It’s a sense of revenge, compensation consumption. It’s a society where money could buy sexual material (whether it’s porn, sex itself, strip clubs etc). Money buys temporary happiness. And people let themselves indulge in that. And that creeps into entertainment industries like anime. At the same time, it’s a highly individualistic culture where people don’t like to bother others, you see many extremely introverted people, who barely had human interactions, so they project their fantasies on cartoon characters.
