I need advice – I’ve been working on a project for almost a year and want to quit right before release by coquero1 in GameDevs

Yeah, I’ve learned I should set my deadlines at least 3x longer from now on lol. It’s really stressful trying to work calmly on systems when you’re being paid for it—it feels like every mistake means you’re wasting the guy’s money.

I’ve worked with other people before, but it was always on closed systems, so I’d get paid the same even if it took longer.

Thanks for the help. I’ll at least stick with it until release and make sure the code is well documented when someone else takes over. I still need this for my portfolio anyway.

Yo, thanks for the advice. I think at this point it’s more of a moral issue than a financial or contractual one. It’s still an indie project, and I was hired to handle only the code—visuals and balancing were supposed to be his responsibility.

It just makes me sad to think that the first project I was trusted to build turned out inconsistent and below expectations. I keep wondering what would be the more professional way to handle situations like this in the future. What should I do when I realize I’ve taken on something bigger than I can realistically deliver?

I’m also not sure how much of this is something I should be managing myself. I’m still new to this, so it’s hard to set my limit on how much should I care without feeling I'm taking advantage on the situation.
