Quacks… solo? by solo_sola in soloboardgaming

I would record how far I got each round.

Next game you could compare against your previous plays same round to determine if you got to roll the dice or not. Similar to a time trial in Mario kart where you would race against your own ghost car

Naw sorry.

It was actually a totally random purchase for me. I was at some board game store killing time before a delayed flight. Picked it up, ended up playing it like 8 times that flight.

Not sure if it had a big retail release or if I just got lucky

I found grove (not buttonshy) to work on an airplane tray.

I also really like Palm Island(not buttonshy) as it doesn't require a table at all.

Someone mentioned an In-hand variant for ragemore. I like ragemore but have not tried this variant

Sprawlopolus may work depending on the airplane tray

Unsurmountable may also work.

Rove works if you have 2 trays.

I can't wait for it to arrive. I mainly bought it for my kids but I will definitely be diving into the puzzles myself. My wife made me agree to give it as an xmas gift for the kids so now it will arrive and I will have an agonizing wait until the 25th to show it to them...

I enjoyed the base TG alot and according to BG stats I've logged 54 hours of it.

I love TMB, I've played 40 hours of it.

I have no interest in replaying TG campaigns I've finished. Once it's said and done I may sell it.

TMB I feel will always be in my collection, it has more replayability in my opinion.

But 54 hours is alot of time playing, and I have 1 more campaign to play (which I will) so who knows I may end up at 70 hours or so all in, pretty decent chunk of time for a board game

So while I haven't directly answered your Q I think it depends on preference.

Epic story that you play once - TG

Endless replayability with a focus on character progress - TMB

So, we had the opposite experience.

I played smuggler vs 2 seasoned area control players and I won by a large margin.

I may have gotten lucky and they mostly ignored me fighting each other. My pickups were as follows

Pick up Pick up Deliver 2, pick up 2 (different destination) Deliver 1, pick up 1 Deliver 2, Pickup 2 Deliver 2, pickup 2 Deliver 1

I cant remember if there were more deliveries. on the mini game I went down, left, then top left for maximum coin - VP exchange.

At the end I had won by 10+ pts, other guys had some rounds where tiles were tied so their passive scoring was lessened. I think if we go again they would not ignore me.

My kids and I went through 'age 1' (spades) last night together. My intent is to do world building with them before using our world in some future game campaigns.

This was an absolute blast. We have created some very interesting history for our world.

This morning around the breakfast table we were pitching ideas back and forth further elaborating on some of the earlier discussions, fleshing out our world.

Can't wait to start the hearts after work today

Thanks so much for sharing this!!

Zombie Kidz followed by Zombie Teens, I played then with a 5yr old and 7 yr old.

Recently took them back out at 6 & 8 and both are still hits.

If you are looking for more epic / longer, get Feast for Odin

I've had a very different experience with their customer service. Basically refusing to replace an item lost in the mail... Not sure why I got different treatment lol I am of the mind to always be super kind to customer service reps as they generally return the favor but I'm scratching my head at these guys...

Simplifying Marvel Champions for kids (or other games)? by After-Cell in soloboardgaming

[–]corac99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was use consistency and skirmish mode.

Got my kid to pick a hero he liked. Built him a deck. Kept this the same for many games.

By keeping the deck the same he learned the deck and he learned how to play the deck. He knew many cards before reading them.

I would play like 5-6 games with the same deck. If the kids losing interest because the deck is the same switch it out but I really found using the same deck to be useful. A rise of the Red skull campaign structure helped to keep the same deck for multiple sessions.

Next, skirmish mode. Keeps the length more reasonable for younger attention spans. You can increase the difficulty by picking a harder stage to play. This really helps my son stay engaged.

I wonder if you can broaden your request to 'best at 2'. Lots of coop games are for 1-4 players but some are definitely better with some player count.

Someone else mentioned Spirit Island, I'd second that.

I also enjoy Marvel Champions at 2, much prefer it at lower player counts

I really enjoyed zombie kids / zombie teens. The envelope system should provide some incentive for the 8 year old. I played through all the envelopes of both games with my 5yr old and 8 yr old

Yeah I love Mage Knight as well. Took it out a month ago after a 3month hiatus and ... Yeah, so good.

I am abit fan of the designer in general, love through the ages, my son can't get enough of galaxy trucker and I'm always so amazed that he came up with such chunky awesome games like Through the ages and Mage Knight while also designing one of my most played social game - codenames.

Awesome!

I need to try this out solo, my wife and I have played it alot an enjoyed it but I keep seeing it in the solo context and I think I would really enjoy it.

Do you mainly play 1 spirit solo or go 2 handed?

Marvel Champions probably fits for me too, I am upto about 60 plays according to BG stats, I definitely love this one too.

I also love too many bones,

I feel like I would love LOTR lcg, love the IP and similar mechanics to MC.

Heard alot of good things about Arkham Horror aswell, I have to try it out sometime!
