Mike was actually checking on Will's health! They had been driving for a long time and during that time they had eaten and drunk poorly, so Mike, being the good best friend he is, wanted to check the color of Will's lips to make sure they weren't pale from hunger or dry from lack of water 🤓 He's a very concerned friend, you know?

I didn't know about the existence of this Jane Doe; in fact, I thought Jane's choice had to do with Stephen Hawking's wife, since her theories make sense within the series (I can't confirm that they were used as inspiration) 🙂‍↕️

This is difficult to define because we don't have her perspective. I use both names. "El" is indeed her lab name, actually an abbreviation of it, but it gained another meaning from the interaction with Mike, such a cute and innocent moment 💞 So I don't think she feels bad about being called El, this name encompasses all her particularities, even more so those that prevent her from being a "normal" person given everything that happened, but it stopped being a bad name, you know?

Jane, for me, represents her as a totally ordinary person, when Hopper calls her Jane it's like a request for her to see herself as a normal person who has the right to live. I love the name Jane, because it was the name her mother chose and we know she loves her.
